About this house rental
The Mas de la Serra experience includes excellent staff and one the most spectacular locations in Spain. Our excellent reviews can be seen on Trip Advisor. Nestled high on a hillside with far reaching views to mountainous open country, The masia is a sprawling medieval fortified farmhouse. The surrounding area has been hailed as Spain’s Tuscany with unspoilt medieval villages, olive and almond groves and wild hillside walks.
The house offers high-tech modern comforts whilst retaining the historic charm and character of the original building. Staying at the masia is more than your average villa with hotel level facilities. Catering options can be arranged with our excellent chef. The wine and spirit cellar also contains a unique selection of the owner’s family single malt whiskies and guests are welcome to use this as they please, with an honesty bar policy in place.

Each of the nine double bedrooms are unique, offering spacious and adaptable luxury living with an eclectic mix of family heirlooms and unique pieces picked up on travels around the world. The views from every part of the building are spectacular with wild Mediterranean mountains, rocky outcrops and wandering ibex.
This is the perfect country house for a family celebration or large gathering of friends. The house comfortably accommodates up to 18 guests with enough terraces, patios, sitting rooms and grounds for everyone to have their own private space. We can provide extra beds and cots bringing the total capacity with kids to 20.
With three different panoramic roof decks, an infinity pool spilling out over one of the best vistas in Spain, BBQ area and a blissfully rural setting, The masia is a place to get away from it all and discover a new level of relaxation, complete with all the facilities of a boutique hotel.

COOK + DINE: breakfasts and dinners can be provided by our excellent cook Jenny. There is a fully equipped kitchen available to guests. 2 dining areas with seating and terraces for dining alfresco. The property operates an honesty bar system with a wide selection of malt whiskies available. Our guests can also provide their own drinks. highchairs are available. A welcome drink and essential is provided on arrival.
RELAX: 3 reception rooms; Ground floor living area with soft seating and a top floor living area with views of the National Park. Home cinema room with a collection of DVDs.
BATHE: 9; 9 en-suite bathrooms all with showers and 4 with additional baths.
OUTSIDE: 28 hectares of grounds and almond groves, croquet lawn and BBQ area. 3 terraces and 2 private patios, lawn and gated 8m x 5m solar-heated infinity pool with sun loungers. Parking.
TECH: free fast Wi-Fi, TV’s, stereo systems, DVD players and a cinema room with DVDs. There are speakers by the swimming pool.
PLAY: Pool table, cinema room, table tennis table, books and boards games available. Mountain bikes available and walking maps and guides are on hand. Steam room, rowing machine, and wood fired hot tub available at an additional cost. Spa treatments can also be arranged at an additional cost.
PETS: No pets.
ADDITIONAL INFO: The staff have a day and a half off per week from 12noon Tuesday and all of Wednesday. Electric fans are provided in all rooms. Luis the house manager takes care of arranging all group activities, booking restaurants and helps out with anything you need during your stay. Jenny the cook can also provide any additional meals during your stay.
VENUE HIRE: Wedding receptions welcome. Corporate groups welcome. The cinema room has AV equipment and the owners can arrange corporate group activities in the local area.
LOCAL AREA: The village of Fuentespalda is a 10-minute drive or 3km walk from The Almond Estate. It has a mini market, two bars and a good restaurant. The larger town of Valderrobres is a 20-minute drive and offers a wide selection of supermarkets, shops, bars and restaurants. Frequently voted one of the most beautiful villages in Spain, Valderrobres also boasts a castle, cathedral and museum.
ACTIVITIES NEARBY: There are plenty of treks for all abilities in the breath-taking countryside that surrounds the masia, many of which combine a chance to cool off in turquoise pools and waterfalls as you explore. Perhaps the most famous hike is through the Els Ports gorge with its dramatic forested peaks and translucent plunge pools. The lake at the bottom of the valley provides the opportunity for water sports, including kayaking, windsurfing and fishing. and saddling up for a day’s ride in the wilderness. Take a day trip to the coast where you will find the spectacular coastal town of Peniscola.

Great property. Full of history and character. Lovely pool with the best view ever. Lovely hikes in the wilderness and plenty to do if you want to but also great to just relax. Luis and Jenny looked after us really well. Thank you.

A truly magical place to escape to and relax with the family - it felt like our own private castle. The staff prepared and served a great daily breakfast and a welcome dinner (you can order more fully catered evening meals or lunches if you need - we did because the food was delicious and it felt like our own private restaurant with no clearing up!) Jenny the chef catered for all our group's dietary requirements - including the kids - and Luis her husband organised loads of trips for us around the local area and bike hire. Cycling the "Green Road" - a former railway track now a family friendly cycle route - was wonderful as it runs through olive groves and great mountain scenery, and Luis organised a lovely restaurant for lunch as a pit stop. There is a canyon / gorge walkway through waterfalls as well as some beautiful walks around the house itself. The house is totally isolated with loads of land but the staff live on site in their own cottage and can help with everything and Luis speaks perfect English. The kitchen was very well stocked with loads of fridges, coffee machine, a huge range cooker etc. Outside there is also a massive Argentine style BBQ.
The house is beautifully decorated and all the bedrooms had ensuite bathrooms - it felt like a hotel. There are two huge lounges, a games room and lots of terraces to relax on. The swimming pool has great views of the mountains. My father struggles with stairs and she had the choice of two lovely ground floor bedrooms both with their own ensuite. The local town of Valderrobres is 20 minutes drive away and had lots of supermarkets, restaurants and local shops as well as a medieval castle, cathedral and a stunning medieval hill top village which the kids loved exploring.
