A simple hotel, with nice staff, near the Köln Arcaden Shopping Center.

If you're planning to attend a fair at Koelnmesse, the location is ideal. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel is very clean, but the rooms are nothing special. However, I really appreciated the breakfast, which costs 15 euros — a very fair price for what is on offer. Köln Arcaden, Cologne's largest shopping centre, is just around the corner — a five-minute walk away. There is a very good small pizzeria less than 10 minutes' walk away called Pizzeria Il Futuro. It's an awkward name, but I can honestly say that I had the best pizza I've had in at least a decade — it was really delicious!

The neighbourhood is not the best, but it's OK. When we first checked in, there was a bad smell in the room. However, the staff took care of it very effectively, and to our astonishment, it had completely disappeared by the time we returned from dinner.

Good location but facilities could be way better.

The room was cleaned every day which exceeded my expectations. Location was great for my purposes since it was only two stops away from Gamescom and only 3 from downtown Cologne. 24 hour reception desk is also a nice option. It is also good that you can use the same card for the room as well as the front door.

My room while not impressively spacious to begin with was in the attic which meant that a large portion of the space was unusable due to the sloped ceiling. Unfortunately, that unusable area was exactly where the desk had been placed — the one I needed to work at. I ended up moving the desk to the opposite side of the room just to sit comfortably and reach the power outlet. When I commented on the steep price, the response I got was, “Well, it’s Gamescom,” as if that justified charging nearly three times the regular rate. Honestly, it felt like they were unapologetically gouging guests during the event — pretty disgraceful. The bathroom, while clean, looked quite dated. There was no towel rack, no hook, and nowhere at all to hang a towel to dry.

Ok for the price

It is a little further out of the city, but with a train and metro station close by. You can easily get to the center. There is also a shopping center and a Lidl market close to the hotel. Quiet and well-kept place.

The room does not have a fan and as we were staying on days when the temperature reached 29 degrees, it was a little difficult to sleep. We left the window open to cool off and that's why mosquitoes entered the room. Another negative point was that on the day of my check-out, the reception was empty. Check-out started at 6:30am and we knocked on the door at 7:25am, without success. We called the number and no one answered. I went down to the kitchen area and found a female employee who didn't speak English. We left her the key, not sure that the check-out was done.

Good

The location is great. Trains, trams and buses are all within a short walking distance. There are plenty restaurants, shops, supermarkets and everything else one could need around.

It's obvious that the place is old. It needs refreshing the walls and putting on a new paint. The bathroom didn't have a window or some other kind of ventilation.

Parking was cheap

Biggest problem was that they claim to be reachable since they have numbers you can call when there is nobody at the reception. We were with a group and I came last back to the hotel early morning. I called and called. Nobody was answering the phone. I stayed 1,5 hours early morning on the streets by myself. So if you are a single lady traveling, this would be the worst thing that can happen. I panicked and when the reception was open, I went to talk with them but they couldn't give me an straight answer when I asked them why they have this number when they don't pick up the phone.

I liked the Hotel location. It's nearby to all shops and tram stations. Staffs spoke English and very helpful. Rooms were clean.
