Hotel Suraj

Suraj Hotel was one of the highlights of my time in Jaisalmer. Set in a beautifully preserved 500 year old haveli within the fort, it offers a genuine heritage experience rather than a modern hotel experience. From the moment I arrived, Shubham and his family made me feel welcome. The hotel is very much a family run, multi generational property, and you can feel the pride they take in caring for this historic haveli. The chef, also a family member, serves excellent food, and I particularly enjoyed relaxing in the private rooftop seating area each morning. The location is outstanding. Step outside and you'll find several great cafés with amazing views, while the famous Jain Temples are right next door. Another bonus is the peace and quiet. As vehicles cannot get close to the hotel, the constant blasting of tuk-tuk horns is reduced to distant background noise. This is not a place with lifts and modern conveniences, but that is part of its charm. Expect stairs, character, and the feeling that you are staying in a piece of living history. The hotel's in house two night camel safari was one of the highlights of my trip. The first day was with a small group of five, while the second day was a private experience at no extra cost. My guide, Samdu, was outstanding, looking after me every step of the way. Professional, knowledgeable, and great company, he made the entire experience unforgettable. If you want an authentic stay in the heart of Jaisalmer Fort with wonderful hospitality, I highly recommend Suraj Hotel.

Great Hotel. Second time I’ve stayed here

The building was spectacularly, keeping its historic authenticity.The staff didn’t disappoint either, they helped in every way possible, I had an issue with my phone, which I was given assistance with, considering it was my problem not the hotels.It was also great value,at the time I was staying,early September.

I was unable to work out the AC ,it was hot and humid when I was staying.It was just that I arrived back late to the hotel,if it was earlier I could have had assistance on how to work it out.

It was located really perfectly near the Jain Temple. The owners were very friendly and helpful. The ratings of 9.1 just do not seem to be that honest.

The facilities were poor the sheets were old and tired. I know that this is a historic building that is beautiful, but way too rustic for our taste. It was very cold and when you have a shower the water goes everywhere. The noise at night in our room is continuous I would suggest asking for a room at the rear with a view out of the fort. So sorry all in all disappointing.
