ONSEN RYOKAN Yuen Sapporo

The hotel is beautifully themed and truly feels very Japanese. From the interior to the exterior, every detail follows the concept so well, and we really loved and enjoyed the overall atmosphere. It felt like a genuine Japanese experience rather than just staying at a regular hotel. We also tried the Japanese-style breakfast, which was delicious and satisfying. But the highlight of our stay was definitely the onsen. It was beautiful and very well designed. We especially appreciated the special tap card for the women’s onsen, which made us feel more comfortable and secure. And having unlimited ice cream after the onsen was such a fun and lovely touch!

There were a few things that could be improved. The rooms were quite small, and it was difficult for us to open and organize our suitcases comfortably, especially since we were traveling with large luggage. The onsen was also extremely crowded during our stay. At times, we even had to wait for a shower space and for a hair dryer to become available. The hotel is also a little far from public transportation, so we often chose to walk or rent bicycles instead.

The Onsen was magical. Such a beautiful Japanese experience. The decor was also Japanese zen. The smell was delightful - I say that because every time I walked into the lobby the beautiful aroma made me feel calm and happy to be there. The staff were excellent and very helpful. It is situated a little away from the main town area (about a 15 min walk) and taxis are so good here and relatively cheap via western standards. And I must say the taxis are the cleanest I have ever experienced in any country and the drivers delightful. The Onsen though was the highlight. Such a unique experience. It was so worth paying a little extra for this.

The room was small - however I am told that this is quite normal for Japan (and that this room was actually larger than most) so I totally understand - I am viewing the size from a "western" hotel room perspective.
