About this villa rental

Villa Gattaiola is a charming 17th-century villa nestled on the outskirts of Lucca, offering an authentic Italian escape surrounded by olive trees and vineyards. Built by a noble Lucca family, this beautiful home sits atop a serene hill just 4 km from Lucca's historic city walls. A perfect blend of tradition and tranquility, it’s a family-friendly retreat where vintage charm and natural beauty come together to create an unforgettable experience.

Although not a luxury villa, Villa Gattaiola exudes warmth and character, making it an ideal spot for families seeking a peaceful getaway. The villa is enveloped in lush greenery, offering absolute quiet and privacy, with stunning views of the surrounding countryside. You’ll be immersed in the beauty of nature, with the gentle sounds of birds and the sight of ancient trees all around. There are also plenty of scenic walking and hiking trails nearby, perfect for outdoor enthusiasts.

The villa consists of two floors designed with comfort and simplicity in mind:

GROUND FLOOR: An original living room, a separate kitchen, and a spacious dining room with French windows that open to the garden and rolling hills. There are two comfortable double bedrooms, each with a king-size bed, and two bathrooms. The rooms are naturally cool, even in summer, and are not equipped with air conditioning, adding to the relaxed atmosphere. The fully-equipped kitchen includes everything needed for a homely stay, such as a microwave, coffee machine, toaster, stove, dishwasher, and a range of cooking utensils. Additional amenities like iron, ironing board, and Wi-Fi ensure convenience throughout your stay.

FIRST FLOOR: This floor features five bedrooms—three doubles and two twins—along with four bathrooms. A crib or small bed for a child is available upon request. Please note that one of the twin rooms does not have air conditioning, but the villa’s overall cool climate ensures a comfortable stay.

EXTERNAL AREA: The villa’s lush garden encircles the house, offering a peaceful outdoor retreat. Enjoy breakfast or dinner al fresco under the shade of ancient trees, or relax in a charming corner just outside the dining room with white chairs and a small table, perfect for unwinding with a book or taking in the panoramic views.

The villa also boasts a well-maintained swimming pool (14x7 meters) that’s ideal for families, especially children, with a depth of 1.5 meters. The pool area is equipped with lounge chairs, a gazebo, a table, and a cold/hot shower, along with a toilet and beach towels provided for your convenience.

Villa Gattaiola is a welcoming, informal home perfect for family retreats, where you can enjoy the quiet of the countryside and the charm of the past. We had a beautiful 10 day stay at Villa Gattaiola. Monica was super helpful. We were a group of 11 adults and one baby, the villa was perfect for us. Not too far from Lucca walls, easy to get to from Pisa airport. The villa is cool in the evenings, the showers worked perfectly, the pool is a fabulous area and we would highly recommend. Thank you.

The villa is beautiful and very spacious on a large property, surrounded by an olive orchard. The pool is amazing with incredible views of the mountains in the distance. Make sure to visit the winery that is only a 5 minute walk away! The town of Lucca is great - keep in mind you will need a car to get there, or book transportation. Our contact was helpful in answering any questions. The villa is over 200 yrs old, so don't expect modern bathrooms etc, but that is part of the experience. Only minor complaint is that they only provide enough dish soap, toilet paper, dishwasher soap etc. to start and I think more should be provided for the entire visit. Note that there is a big set of stairs (about 25 steps) to get upstairs that may be a challenge for elderly guests or others. 2 bedrooms are on the main floor. I would highly recommend this villa.

The grounds, the pool, the space Lighting - all a bit dim. Downstairs fan noisy in bedroom. Electrical sockets a bit limited

Pool was cleaned to remove leaves - small thing but made the incredible pool have even more of an impact! It’s also heated so really lovely if it’s not super hot outside. Generally a very nice space and would book again!

The villa is semi detached which we were surprised at , however the other part of the villa did not appear occupied , it looked somewhat delapidated. The part we stayed in was beautifully furnished . Majority of the bedrooms were of a good size . The bathrooms were somewhat disappointing and the showers were haphazard as could not all be used at the same time - in fact worked best when used one at a time . There were many items lacking in the kitchen which was small in relation to how many the villa slept - a small bbq also which was disappointing . The gardens although vast were not maintained particularly well and needed some TLC ( mowing / weeding etc ) the pool was lovely and there were enough sunbeds . We enjoyed our stay but felt that a little more attention to small details would have better reflected the price - eg - only 2 teatowels, no duvet covers just a sheet , but these are minor and easily rectified . All in all a lovely stay .

This home is extraordinary with period feature but modern convenience. The gardens and the pool area are beautiful. We were 11 people and each one found areas that were special.

Very nice typical Tuscan accommodation. We loved the garden, the pool, the interior design of the house which was kept as close to the original from the XVII-th century. Monica, the manager, was also very nice and helpful.
