Halfway House Inn

Check in was easy. I arrived at 7.30 Friday evening after a day of gig racing in European Championships. No problem. Had booked an evening meal for 8 of us. A wide ranging menu, well cooked, reasonably priced, very pleasant witress with a great sense of humour. Breakfast was very good, The Light Cornish.

Late start to breakfast and took 30 minutes to arrive, which made me miss an important briefing meeting for the Championships. I arrived at 9, and there was only a husband wife at another table, so I was surprised that it took so long. I appreciate that there can be delays/problems in kitchens, but if waitress had apologised and informed me after about 10 minutes that things were running a bit late, I would have understood. I assumed that The Halfway House would have its own parking. Was there any notification that paid parking would be required? Only £5/day but...

We have stayed twice before and thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast and dinner. However this time, breakfast wasn't great, Undercooked poached egg and omelette tasteless Pizza ok Rib eye steak was great No pasta, one pizza left! Previously stayed in room 5 which was spacious Room 3 not as nice, windows dirty Bedside cabinets sticky Piece of paper in bathroom asking for curtains around bath to be used. Looked tatty

Fantastic location, right in the centre of historic Kingsand, two minutes walk from the sea. Full of character with wonderful staff. A clean and comfortable room.

Live music was booked for the pub when we stayed which could be heard from the upstairs rooms. It did however finish promptly at 11 pm and then was lovely and quiet.

Breakfast was ok. Little choice of cereal and no fruit or pastries Sausages were poor and some items were either over cooked or raw ie tomatoes.Dinner was very good and staff were pleasant.

As above. Place seems tired and needs a good clean. Entrance is dirty and carpet upstairs is as well.Linen not great and towels too small.Took a while to book in and Landlord was ok but not too friendly.Curtains were awful and let in the light from outside. Really need blinds.
