Location and views were stunning, but sadly that's it. Clean bedding and towels.
We were met with a very unfriendly and frosty reception from the host. Easy enough to get the keys but customer service was very poor and made us feel unwelcome. The fact that we had to put coins in an electricity metre - this wasn't noted anywhere on the booking information before we arrived. Beds were very small and uncomfortable. Property inaccurately described as 4 star which is very misleading. Smell of damp throughout property and cobwebs (which may be expected in an old property). TV was broken when we arrived, and no wifi available due to it being 'broken'. Felt very uneasy approaching the host to ask about these amenities which were advertised as available on the booking information. No backup mobile signal either, so had to drive into the local town, find a coffee shop and ask to use their wifi in order to send a few emails. Overall, no where near a 4 star stay, but the attitude of the host was the biggest negative, as it impacted our stay from the minute we arrived.

No complaints at all.

A real gem. Rita was very friendly and accommodating. The cottages are beautiful, characterful buildings and we were very comfortable there. We thought it was fantastic value for money.

The location is fantastic—peaceful, quiet, and with stunning views across the surrounding hills. It’s a great base for exploring the area, and parking was very easy, which made things simple on arrival.
The cottage itself has many wonderful traditional features—wooden beams, old stonework, and that warm, characterful feel you hope for in a classic country stay.
On arrival, we noticed quite a bit of dust, some cobwebs in corners, and even a couple of dead woodlice on the floor. There were also some bugs on the curtains, and the crockery could have been cleaner—some plates felt a bit greasy. We were also surprised to find there were no basic cooking essentials provided—not even cooking oil, butter, or coffee—just three tea bags. It would have made a big difference to have a few basics in place.
There's no dishwasher so everything relies on hand washing. It has a coin operated electricity metre which was quite inconvenience.
The owner was onsite during our stay, which was reassuring in case anything went wrong, but we felt they could have been a bit more warm and welcoming.

good views from the upstairs windows, looking across the countryside
Not telling us until we arrived that the electricity is on a coin operated machine.
The fact the internet didn't work for the entire time we were there
The dead mice in the cupboard
The general state of the place, I understand the place is on the market to be sold and they have clearly let things slip.
One of my group getting accosted by the owner about why she was there, and who she was
Being told not to contact them if there is an issue as she is out.

The property is absolutely stunning. Very picturesque and exactly what we imagined for a cottage in the country side

Surroundings were pretty. It was quiet and peaceful, the birds loved the feeders in front of the property. Good location for accessing the countryside by car, close to lots of canoeing and SUPing destinations.
The property is advertised as having a restaurant on site. The restaurant closed in August. It was very hard trying to get a taxi into Monmouth. The owners told us “you’ll be lucky”. The electricity meter was a bit of a pain.

Location was very good.
The beds were comfortable with quality, clean linen.
The cottages are for sale, we were the only people staying there and it all needed lots of TLC.
The cottage was full of cobwebs, there was no welcome pack, not even a pint of milk!
We were only told on arrival that electricity had to be paid for via a meter which gobbled pound coins at an alarming rate.
I believe this should be stated on the site information so we could be prepared.
The weather was unseasonably damp and cold but the night store heaters were switched off so we asked for wood for the log burner but there wasn't any available - even the heated towel rail didn't work!
We picked this property especially for it's on site restaurant as my sister is disabled and it meant we wouldn't have to go out at night to eat so we were particularly disappointed that the restaurant was closed for three of our four nights there.

The rooms were cosy and with comfy seating , large dining table and decent kitchen area. lots of crockery and facilities made catering for family party easy.
The lack of information regarding the property and some facilities listed were communal and not in the property and this was not clear from
listed info. However the staff were quick to respond to our queries.
pre- payment meter for Electrics seems mean.

The setting, lovley gardens the thoughtfully designed comfortable atmospheric rooms. The friendly owners
The only thing was I could not get the wifi to work, I did not mention it to the owners and to be honest I could survive without it anyway

The ambience and the period look. Also the location. The fireplace was really a big plus and a much needed facility. We had everything we needed for the stay
The heating system could be upgraded. The electricity system is a bit old with coin based operation which you need to pay. The bathroom could do with an exhaust fan.

The cottage was warm and the host was most informative and welcoming. Having got a little lost due to misreading the sat nav, and having called for help, the host came out on a cold Jan night to direct us into her driveway! We were celebrating a family 60th birthday and having an open plan kitchen, dining area and lounge with wood burner, it was perfect to have everyone together whatever we were doing.
Location was great for Monmouth and the River Wye and had we been staying longer than a weekend, there would have been plenty to see and walks to take in the immediate area.
None at all.

Cottages was nice but....
On arrival we were greated by the lady whom runs the cottages and wasn't very welcoming. We were shown to the cottage which freezing cold at 3pm, there was no heating and would only come on again in the early hours of the morning.
We were then shown the pre paid electric meter which was unexpected, we asked about putting the heating on and said nothing could be done about it and just have to wait till the morning. We got given extra electric heaters which cost us extra to heat up the rest of the cottage and rooms before having been told we need to make our way to the petrol station to buy wood for the fireplace as the property wasn't able to provide (which would have cost a extra £10 per a basket) any as it was already starting to get cold.
The following day we tried speaking with the owner telling her about our issues with the cold cottage (even with the heating coming on in the morning) we were then told again the we need to go buy wood from the petrol station and then told it was our own fault for going to stay there the time that we did, which was the only time we could as we work in the industry and is the quieter time.
We book to stay 4 nights (at a cost of £640) and only ended up staying 1 of the 4 nights, after the rudeness of the owner and been told we were wrong and didn't know what we are talking about we decided to pack up our things and leave.
When I asked for a invoice, the look on her face was as if she couldn't believe I'm asking for one with her eyes been rolled at me to be told they don't give invoices and when asked only to be told, they don't do such things. The owner wasn't happy to help in any way or even offer some kind of compensation to make us stay and try enjoy the property.
It's a shame they don't understand the problems they have or try changing there ways, the cottages are nice but it's the owner who's bringing it down.

Very nice cottage with great access to lots of tourist attractions in the Forest of Dean etc.
No freezer (just ice box in fridge) a slight nuisance. Lucky we had plenty of change for the electricity meter.
