A Casa do Governador

Really great place to stay, just outside Evora. It is a short taxi ride in to the centre. The staff were super friendly and accomadation is really good, the room was excellent. It is a bit like staying in someone's home rather than a hotel and the grounds outside were also lovely.

The setting is gorgeous - the surrounding vineyard, pool, and well-documented Roman ruins made for an interesting and serene stay. The staff were very attentive and helpful, making sure they had breakfast ready for us before we left early for the airport. The room is lovely and the breakfast fresh and ample. The hotel is in the countryside but minutes away from Evora so easy to drive over for the day.

What ruined our last night in Portugal were the barking dogs that did not stop barking from 9 pm till 1 am and then started up again at 5 am. Given that we had to get up early for the drive to the airport, this was especially upsetting. I wrote the hotel and what I got back was an inadequate response that this is a neighbour's dog and there is no solution and, further, that one of the dogs belongs to the hotel. Why this dog, who actually barked the longest and woke us at 5, could not be kept indoors after 11 pm is baffling to me.
