We got to the property, it looked interesting at first, we thought we were going to be staying in the castle, but didn't even get to look around the castle, we were met by the owner 20 minutes after our arrival, to then find out there is absolutely nothing at this place, no bar, no restaurant, no food, no shop, no nothing. For £140 you get to stay in a shared accommodation, with no dressing table, or iron or hair dryer or mirror. And then to be offered ceral or fruit for breakfast. We didn't stay, we left the keys on the bed and went to find somewhere else to stay. Very disappointed!
Everything!

Nice quiet location.
They are very short staffed which makes it tricky when fully booked. The host seemed frustrated that a large number of guests came down for breakfast at the same time. We did not get our drinks order taken and had to chase it up. There is also a 1 hour window to have breakfast which is not ideal as many people travel for leisure and would appreciate not feeling rushed.
The rooms could have been cleaner, there were stains on the bathroom floor and the bath very old and slippery (an accident waiting to happen).
Did not feel welcome in this place, felt like i was actively ignored by the older lady host and would stay somewhere else if ever in Tiverton again.

We were given pretty rooms in the Moat Cottage, which were warm and comfortable. The castle is fascinating and we were lucky enough for our host let us in and we wandered around. Bickleigh Castle is a lovely romantic place for a cosy winter break.

Nothing not to like.

It is a beautiful property in a beautiful location. Our room was clean, spacious and comfortable. The history of the place is fascinating and it was very nice to have the old castle building opened for us so we could we could explore it. We enjoyed that.
Our reception was chaotic. On arrival we found a lady leaving the property in her car. She asked if we were guests coming to the wedding. We were. She told us a room number and said keys were in the room. It took us a while and help from other visitors to find where to go. The rooms are situated in various cottages and buildings on the estate. Having left our luggage and setting off to the wedding we discovered that we had been given the wrong room and other guests were trying to move in. That got sorted, without the lady who saw us in, but we could have all done without the hassle.
The following morning we couldn't find where we needed to go for breakfast. There was no one on reception and it took a good half hour to find someone who could show us the building, and where to enter it.
Breakfast itself was uninspired but in a lovely room.

Completely loved our stay here! Wonderful host Sarah and amazing lodgings. Exceptional offerings at the Continental breakfast held in the lovely orangery. Wish we had stayed longer. Next time we will, and look forward to trying out all the different cottage rooms, although it might be hard to top our stay in the historical luxury of the Bridal Suite 'wing'. Fresh and clean, comfortable massive bed, absolutely no mustiness or chill. Very quiet. Highly recommend!

Absolutely beautiful place to stay. Brilliant hosts. A real gem in the Devon Countryside. We will be back x
Shower pump a tad noisy, but the shower itself was amazing.

Great location, unique natural setting among the trees , period property with hardly any facility , limited service ,
Rooms very small, shower with very weak flow and difficulty staircase to go up and down , breakfast limited to bare basic,

Wonderful surroundings and beautifully quiet.
It is quite rustic with a little magic thrown in.
Could be clearer as to what facilities are available. For instance, it suggests that inflatables for the river are available but this isn't the case, you would need to bring your own.
Likewise, the tour currently only available on Thursdays, it would have been helpful to know this prior to arriving so as to avoid some initial disappointment.

Fabulous location, very quiet, beautiful surroundings.
Shower room very cramped. Bed possibly as old as the Castle (11th century)
Breakfast very mediocre, just cereals and diy toast and a very tired croissant

Lovely surroundings.
Owner asleep when we arrived & took 10 minutes to rouse anyone to come to reception where our personal details were on display for anyone to see. Uncomfortable mattress, thin pillows, ripped & frayed bath towel, mould around shower tray. Hoping to have a treat for 50th birthday, but disappointing at £140 a night for both accommodation & breakfast - no cooked breakfast. It was help yourself to fruit (at least 2 of the blueberries in the bowl were mouldy & the strawberries were on the turn) & yoghurt, cereal, toast & jam/marmalade. Were served tea or coffee & 1 warmed croissant per person. Not offered extra.

Great location, property and grounds. One of the best night's sleep we've had when staying over somewhere. The bedd was very comfortable. Hosts were very friendly and helpful. Great overnight stay.

Fresh fruit in the breakfast buffet. Nothing else.
The room was very small and cramped. The bed was a small double. There was no wardrobe. The TV was tiny and the reception poor. There was no WiFi in the room. The room only had one set of towels on arrival. The room was not serviced.
Although a kettle, coffee etc was provided when we made coffee it was undrinkable. We were not sure if this was due to the water quality or something else.
The manager was away and had left the gardener in charge of reception. He then disappeared and the only person we saw was a young girl who did the breakfast. It was difficult to pin down when breakfast would be available - in the end it was 9 am before we got anything.
Apart from the fruit, breakfast was poor - ' continental' with little choice , sliced bread and.no.marmalade

LOVED THE CASTLE AND THE SURROUNDING GARDENS . THE RELAXED ATMOSPHERE AND THE FRIENDLY SERVICE. LOVED THE ROOM AND THE BATHROOM, JUST HAD TO HET USED TO THE HESVEY DOORS THAT TENDED TO SLAM BUT OTHERWISE ABSOLUTELY LOVED EVERYTHING FROM WALKING AROUND THE CASTLE AND GARDENS TO FALLING INTO BED AT NIGHT AND STRAIGHT INYO DEEP SLEEP 😴
Maybe the heavy fire doors and creaking floors but LOVED the authenticity

A unique private hotel with the very friendly owner running things. Nice to stay somewhere that wasn't a chain, rare to see these days. Continental breakfast provided with plenty of choices and warm croissants given.

Very rustic property, listed. Beds were comfortable. Bathroom was fine. Amenities in room ok. Breakfast was fine.
A bit rundown all round. Wifi was terrible. The owner said it was fine last week and that she would get a technician in. If WiFi is very important to you, then check with the owner before booking.

The staff were superb. Relaxed, welcoming and made you feel like family. The owner, Sarah, especially.
If you’re wanting a shiny, modern, high tech hotel don’t come here. However if you want a unique old castle, exceptional customer service and beautiful surroundings you will be hard pushed to find better than this lovely place.
I didn’t like the fact that I could only stay for 1 night, not their fault, mine.

A beautiful location set in well kept grounds. Rooms are spotlessly clean and beds are extremely comfortable. The castle is rich in history and the hosts were wonderful. Nothing was too much trouble. We’re booking another night on our way home.
Nothing, it was perfect.

Beautiful setting, very quiet. Quaint and historic building, like stepping back in time. Very friendly host, added bonus was Timmy the cat. Excellent breakfast, nothing was too much trouble. Great pub up the road Fisherman's Cot. Woken up in the morning to the sound of the river running and the birds singing. Fabulous

Perfect little weekend getaway. Sarah and her team were lovely and helpful.
The rooms were clean and tidy and the impromptu history lesson as we visited the castle was the icing on the cake for us both.

Very friendly and helpful host. Our room was wonderful. Two enormous double beds which were very comfortable. The ensuite was clean and had a good shower. The room had adequate supply of teas and coffee with biscuits and the breakfast was delivered on time with the best croissants ever. Historic and atmospheric location with the castle and surroundings. It was easy to find and to park. There is a decent pub with meals available right by the river just 5 minutes drive or, if you are brave enough to chance the narrow lanes with no paths, a 10 to 15 minute walk.
I can not think of anything that we did not like but we were very lucky that, during the time we stayed, we were the only guests so had 100% attention, privacy and peacefulness.

It was a night where you stepped back in time. The castle was beautiful and felt as old and atmospheric as it actually is in a 1000 Yr old castle.
Very friendly warm host too and lovely to look around the old Chapel and guard rooms. It was a surprise for my husbands 50th birthday and was a very special weekend well not forget.thank you

Quiet Rural setting.
Room 6 originally allocated...huge dip in mattress. Desperately needs replacing. Fortunately, the place was quiet as midweek, so we were kindly moved.
I found the 'new' mattress in the next room quite hard and could feel the springs.
No hairdryer could be found in the whole place. Had to go out for the evening with wet hair.
Generally, a bit disorganised and hap- hazard.
