The Rutland is an updated historic charmer!!

Having researched IOM for several years, we found the Rutland to be everything we hoped for. The seafront hotel is everything Douglas! It is clean and comfortable, updated without losing its historic charm. The breakfast buffet provided everything to prepare us for the convenient bus service right outside that took us all across the island. We will not hesitate to book again when we return!

Decent bed & breakfast and cheap

Check in was OK and we knew considering what we were paying that this would be what we would get. Shower was good. If a humble bed and breakfast is what you are looking for then this is your spot

The room and hotel smelled quite bad and the room looks old and tired. Our room had a very musty carpet and windows which didnt fully close, and a tiny TV around 3 miles away from the bed. Parking is quite difficult and nearest we found was around 500m to the hotel.

Excellent Location and Good Value for Money

The breakfast was good and staff serving the BF were very nice and welcoming. The bed was nice and comfortable and rooms were cleaned daily on request. The location of the hotel is excellent but we did not get any view from our room which was the only drawback.

1. We had no view at all from the room while the hotel is located opposite the sea. We wanted at least 1 night in a room with view but they did not manage to get that even for 1 night 2. Bathroom for family room was very very small. Not enough space to take shower properly

Noisy over night from neighbouring rooms Contacted the property to get an accessible room (due to fracturing a hip after booking, 6 weeks before travel) but arrived and no attempt had been made to accommodate, would have been good to have learnt this before arrival

Lovely hotel perfect location

Location was perfect rooms are very clean and very spacious beds were comfy and the breakfast buffet was brilliant something for everybody

Room was so hot it was like a furnace as soon as u got out of the lift stayed on the 4th floor. All 4 windows were open fully all day and night and luckily there was a fan I was able to put on the whole night apart from this .We had an absolutely lovely stay

Breakfast was good. Food could have been kept a little hotter. Room was comfortable and serviced when requested. Staff were helpful and pleasant.

Food could have been hotter. Website for menu not been changed since Tt races and didn’t reflect what was on offer - not much choice and again could have been hotter. Location a little out of the way with not many restaurants but good bus service. Room being at rear/ side of building a little noisy from machinery when windows open.

Weekend break

Quite an old hotel but was very clean and bright nicely decorated everything you needed for your stay friendly helpful staff, bus stop across the road for buses that take you to most places on the island

This is just a personal thing but breakfast finishes at 9.30 which was a little early for me, breakfast was good but as someone who doesn't eat a cooked breakfast would like to have had croissants or pancakes

Good value, great location, suitable for a short stay.

The staff were excellent, the dining room and food were very good. There was a safe storage place for my bike. It is obviously an old hotel but has been refurbished to a high standard.

The TV could do with an upgrade and the room was very warm. I would have appreciated an early breakfast option as I had to depart at 6h30

Try for the sea view rooms

Great location, easy check-in with a smile, lovely clean room with a sea view with comfortable bed and bathroom. I didn't try the breakfast, but it smelt fantastic and was always busy. I'd definitely stay here again.

Spotless, recently refurbished interior. Bright. Big rooms. Warm and comfortable. Singles rooms available. Very good value. Nice breakfast.

Elevator lift very small. 3 persons Or 2 with luggage. Facade needs facelift. Very Steep steps to enter hotel. Slippy when wet.

A gem of a Hotel

From the greeting by the staff as we came in, to the lovely room, beautiful bathroom and the amazing views, to a good night's sleep on a very comfy bed to an incredible AYCE breakfast through to the lovely goodbyes...We loved our cheeky staycation. Location was absolutely perfect and 50 yards away from the Aura Indian Restaraunt where we had a great meal, but if you want to stay at the hotel the food at the Rutland is incredible too. It's a very humble hotel in that it isn't trying to be flashy or showing off if that makes sense. It punches well above it's weight and in my opinion exceeds what other Hotels of a similar value offer in terms of room quality, food and overall vibe. It feels like a happy place and that's a testament to the lovely staff who work there. Absolute gem of a Hotel.

Honestly there was nothing we didn't like. okay you could say the hotel could do with spending some cash on aesthetics such as inside the lift but we came to stay in the room not the lift! And the room was immaculate. The bed was really good size and we slept like logs! Genuinely can't think of a bad thing to say about the Rutland.

Nice hotel needs air conditioning

Hotel was lovely, rooms very spacious and clean .Staff throughout the hotel were pleasant and friendly. Buffett breakfast was excellent. Shame about ventilation.

No air conditioning. The heat hits you when you walk in making public areas and bedroom uncomfortable to sit for any length of time. We had 5 large windows in our room yet only the bottom half of two of them opened by about 4inches allowing hardly any breeze or fresh air to circulate this made sleeping very difficult in the heat. We had average weather so would be unbearable in really hot weather. A fan was provided but again this just blew hot air around the room. Seems to be a problem with most rooms by the conversations we heard from other people as well.

For the price we didn't get good value

The breakfast was ok

We booked for 2 adults and a 2 yr old and no cot and a horrible room. I fought with them and got a better room with no cot The lift wasn't working either

First time in Isle of Man

Clean and modernised restaurant, bar, bedrooms and reception area. Our room was clean and spacious and had an amazing shower. The food was hot and tasty-we had breakfast and dinner there. The bar was small but had a good range of drinks at reasonable prices though underused as very quiet in the evening. Location was fantastic, frequent buses to Douglas where there are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants,and further tourist attractions & other towns, and a short walk to tram station which I highly recommend. Staff were friendly, attentive and helpful.

Lacked atmosphere even though there was a pianist on while we were there, hotel was dead after 10pm. Also the front stairs to the hotel were very steep and the lift was tiny which was a shame because the hotel had obviously been modernised and refurbished

Probably the worst hotel I have ever stayed in.

There was very little to like about this hotel other than the view.

The beds were the most uncomfortable I have ever slept in. The food set up was dreadful. They posted the dinner menu at 12:30 each day however if you were out for the day you could not book dinner which was served from 6pm - 7:30 pm we arrived back about 6:55 pm to be told they had finished serving at which we went to the bar for their bar food menu served until 8:30pm sandwiches, burgers, fish and chips etc., to be told that the chef would only serve sandwiches.
