Such a quiet and peaceful setting with highly professional staff creating a relaxed and personal experience. The rooms are spacious with a small kitchen and fridge, breakfast is always prepared to perfection, pool areas can get busy but there are always available sunbeds, happy hour at the pool bar from 17-18 and live music in the evening … understand why many guests keeps returning. The only negative experience was construction work right next to our rooms in the staff elevator which was not announced so had to move room in the middle of our stay … no help was offered to move our stuff and they could at least have offered a drink in the bar for the inconvenience … also considering that we booked four rooms. Value for money looses on star due to this experience but would still return.

As regular visitors to Madeira we have been guests at the Santa Maria; each time in a one bedroom suite. Location wise it is perfect for the Old Town in Funchal, and just a step away fromthe seafront, nice restaurants, the chair lift to Monte, and a short walk to the town centre. Our suite was very comfortable and a nice shape that wrapped around you. We were on a B&B rate, the breakfast was decent quality and resturant area very comfortable. Indeed after staying at the Santa Maria, we then had a week at the Savoy Palace, which was nice, but preferred the eating arrangements at the Santa Maria. On previous visits we've found it difficult to get sunbeds but a lot better this time. We would have no hesitation in going back.
