Not the best place to stay and not worth the money.

Location to city centre

The hotel was not anything like it was on the website. First of all the rooms were nothing alike, looked very old fashioned and uncleanly. The hotel was extremely understaffed, the whole time at the hotel the most staff working was 2. There was no entertainment at all, and bar was not opened at the times it said on the website and when it was opened you were waiting for 30 mins to get served due to being understaffed. Overall the hotel was not a great experience.

The property would have been a lot better if my room had been warm and there was a heater in bathroom as bathroom was exceptionally cold and there was no heater in bathroom there was a heater in bedroom but again it was still cold

Faded elegance in dire need of investment and proactive repairs and energy boost

Great view, nice to get an upgrade to deluxe double, breakfast is good, staff friendly. Faded elegance...hotel in dire need of redecoration, roof was being repaired when I stayed.

Shower base in single room I stayed in was filthy and walls of the bedroom had scuffed and stained wallpaper and stained floor. Charging £20 per night for a dog is way too much, especially given the rationale from receptions desk was that it would take the cleaners longer to clean the room...I spent 20 minutes trying to drain away the foul gunk and scum from the seal of the shower, my dog wouldn't be happy going in that shower.

Booked two twins and a single room when we arrived I was told that we had two singles and one twin rooms. Dried urine stains on room toilet .Building interior was very shabby

For the price paid, the hotel was adequate. The staff were very kind & hospitable.

The room was pretty dismal. It looked clean, but behind the furniture, there was lots of dirt & grime, the radiator was on, but the room was cold and all through my stay, there was thumping, banging and noise, even in the early hours, so i hardly slept.

Room window sills dirty big mark on carpet looks like bleach on it. Big cobwebs on light fixtures in breakfast room. Wallpaper coming off in corridors. When we got to hotel we were told it’s £10 for parking when I booked it on line it said free parking we were not pleased to be told that. The hotel bar was closed it 10.40pm and it said it 11pm close we came early to have a drink before bed.

It was cold due to lack of heating and limited hot water in the bedroom. Very rundown in need of renovation in lots of areas Evidence of dampness on the stairs. Staff were not too friendly Our stay was cut short by the manager due to the boiler packing in and no hot water in the hotel. Staff again not helpful in securing us alternative accommodation and we had to return home Very disappointed as this was my Christmas gift to my husband

Enjoyed Oban but hotel spoiled holiday.

Position in Oban. Warm room.

Paid for superior double room. Complained straight away. Nothing like photos on website as you will see from my photos below. Dated. Not clean enough. Sound proofing terrible. Lift not working for 2 days. Bathroom far too small. First room we were given had a very small bath which husband could never have used. Asked for a different room and got a very small corner shower. Bathroom in need of repair as is hotel. £10 a day for car park which is ridiculous when you are a guest. Breakfast ok but hot items were too cold! Bacon like rubber and overcooked and cold. Would in no way recommend!!

Always amazed at how low the standards can be in the UK, particularly for the prices charged. Rooms were oddly shaped, crud on the walls, broken bits in the bathroom, insufficiently heated, badly appointed, and with uncomfortable beds. There was basically us and a few other guests, and yet we were still given single rooms with 2 of our colleagues facing a parking lot - they could have at least given then sea-view rooms like the other 2 of us. An extra £10 for parking overnight was ridiculous considering the space available. Service in bar was the reception person, who was nice but pretty unhelpful for most things. Checking out for one of our team took ages, despite everything being paid up front.

Excellent selection of food for breakfast. The room was a good size,with a view across the bay.The staff were very helpful and friendly

Unfortunately we were there during the storm bram and the window frames let in water and the gale force winds were lifting the curtains.We can't blame the hotel for this as the weather is out of their control.

Location.

Gave us a room on bottom floor directly next to the gents toilet. Wanted to charge 25 pounds for an extra half hour late check out. Toilet makes a massive rumbling noise when flushed. View from window looked out into a wall. Noises from banging gents toilet doors at night and day due to being next to the room door and bar.

Attention to detail with the buildings fabric , plaster falling from walls in stairwell and not cleared up, thread bare carpet on my landing stairs. All easy fixes to make the ambiance better , not helped by no lift working . An old and beautifull hotel that just needs a hug !

The breakfast was good and varied. The view from our room was great over the harbour. Some very nice little places to visit in Oban

the hotel paintwork above the window in room 17 could use some seeing to. As 2 disabled people (not wheelchair though) it would have been nice to have had a car parking bay reserved for our arrival and stay.

Whilst we appreciate that this hotel will accommodate our dog, £20 per night seems excessive (a 100% increase on last year), when we weren't left as much as a water dish for her. Housekeeping nevr visited our room during our stay to even empty bins, replace dirty coffee cups and replenish tea bags and milk, which we had to ask for. The mattress protector and bottom sheet were obviously too small for the bed we had and we ended up sleeping on the bare mattress.

The Location.

Restaurant was closed . Didn't tell us why. The only tiny lift was out of order. Staff were not around dishes left out in lobby for 2 days. . Not clean. needs a renovation desperately Dirty carpets stained walls. Its a popular destination i don't think the owners care . It felt like no one cares. Room was clean but so dated . No water pressure. Would never recommend. I personally feel bad for posting this but hopefully it might change .

Not so Great Western Hotel

Beds were comfortable and clean

Hotel generally run down and outdated. Really needs a makeover. Cold feeling and looking room with no instructions on how to work heating. Socket where kettle sat with tea making items did not work. Single glazed dirty windows with unkempt net curtains. Bathroom window curtain barely covered width of window. Creaky floorboards. No soundproofing. Foyer of hotel uninviting. Fire alarm went off as we were checking in causing alarm amongst guests. Apparently there were 'workmen' in fixing it at the time. Would not stay there again. Had to book something last minute due to personal error when booking elsewhere for a function.
