We had a great stay at Spondylus Lodge! The rooms are clean and comfortable and everything looks new. The center of the little town and beach are a 2 minute walk. Ayampe is a super cute little town and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The owner and family where enjoying a holiday while we were there and where super hospitable and kind to us! Ayampe and Spondylus lodge are definitely our new favorite beach destination in Ecuador!

It carefully designed with nature & had beautiful social area.
Our stay at the property was not the best, mainly due to the service experience. When you’re on vacation, you hope to feel welcomed with a positive and helpful attitude from the staff — but unfortunately, that wasn’t our experience. The team seemed upset or annoyed every time we asked a question, which made interactions feel uncomfortable rather than friendly.
Upon arrival, instead of receiving a warm welcome or useful instructions about the property, we were immediately reminded of the check-out time and told that we should ask for anything we needed before 8:45 PM bc she leaves at 9 — which set the tone for the rest of the stay.
Additionally, there were several discrepancies between what was stated on Booking.com and what actually happened. For example, after booking, we were informed there was an extra charge for pets, which I don’t recall being clearly mentioned. Also, although Booking indicated that credit cards were accepted, I was told I had to transfer 100% of the payment in advance via bank transfer to confirm the reservation within the next 2 hours if not the reservation would be cancelled. This is very different from the “no prepayment needed” option shown on the website, and it felt misleading.
The property itself is nice. The bed wasn’t the most comfortable, but it was acceptable. However, the staff’s attitude really affected the overall experience. It didn’t feel like we were on vacation — it felt more like we were bothering someone by being there.
I believe there’s room for improvement in terms of transparency on the booking platform and, more importantly, in staff training to create a more welcoming and guest-focused atmosphere.
