Ryokan Koyokan

We had an amazing stay. The staff were fantastic and the food so delicious, plentiful and varied. We really enjoyed the temple next door and just relaxing in our room which had beautiful views of the pagoda. Would not hesitate to return or recommend, definitely the most memorable stay of our trip. Getting here was fairly easy, it’s around 2000 yen for a private taxi from Yasugi station and then you’ll get picked up in the car park beneath the shrine so you don’t need to carry your bags up through the shrine and up the steps. There’s also a restaurant in that car park if you want to get lunch, otherwise the ryokan provides breakfast and dinner.

Fantastic hospitality. We were picked up from the station. We stayed 2 nights. The first night we had amazing vegetarian food and second night we had a fabulous kaiseki banquet. Both prepared by our host’s son.

Located on the grounds of a historic temple, this charming, somewhat remotely located, ryokan provided scenic beauty, peace, tranquility and excellent food. Our room was spacious and comfortable with balconies overlooking the beautiful grounds. Staff picked us up promptly at the designated location and drove us there up the steep and windy road. We plan to return during future travels.

食事、特にご飯が美味しかった。精進料理も手の込んだ素晴らしいものでした。

部屋にトイレがなく、夜中は廊下の非常灯しかなく、怖かった。何しろ森の中の宿なので。
