The room was very comfortable and quite spacious with a good view from the dining room. I had intended to walk with my luggage from the storage facility but the hill up from the main street was too steep and uneven to consider that. Pretty close to town. Overall good value for money. Oh and there is also a small supermarket next door which was very convenient

I’m very disappointed with how this place handled a simple situation. I stayed here for two nights, paying about *** per night for a private room which is much higher than most hostels in the area. With that, I expected a basic level of service and understanding. On my last morning, I woke up sick with a fever and missed breakfast by less than an hour. I politely asked for something small from the leftovers (like bread or cereal) just to be able to function and go see a doctor. Both reception and the manager refused, showing zero flexibility. About 30 minutes later, the manager brought me cornflakes, but added a passive-aggressive comment: “This is the staff’s cereal, because of you she doesn’t have.” This was unnecessary and clearly not true, and made the whole interaction feel disrespectful. This wasn’t about food it was about attitude. For a place charging premium prices, I expected empathy and basic human consideration. Unfortunately, that was completely missing. I would not recommend staying here if you value service and respectful treatment.

Our stay at Hostal Schilling was wonderful during our four nights in El Calafate. The hostel is cozy, comfortable, and very well located for exploring the town, with a nice breakfast each morning including fresh bread, pastries, coffee, and other options that gave us a great start to the day. Another big plus is the hostel’s excellent location, just a short walk from the main street, shops, restaurants, supermarkets, and currency exchange which made it very easy for us to explore almost all of El Calafate Town directly from the hostel on foot. The owners Cecilia and Ramiro, together with their Team are fantastic hosts and made us feel at home from the very first moment. They were always friendly, attentive, and available to help with anything we needed. A very, very special thanks to Marcia, who went above and beyond helping us organize our tours as we came with no prior booking (Free and Easy) all our plans for the four days we stayed there. Her support, advice, and dedication made a huge difference to our trip. We would also like to thank Fede for all the information and ideas on best way to experience El Chaltén as we were heading there next (free and easy) also things to do during our stay. Thanks to the whole team at Hostal Schilling, our experience in El Calafate was unforgettable, so much postives overshadowed a few negatives and we would not hesitate to stay here again!
