Nice hotel in Lugano

Breakfast was great. Bed was pretty comfortable and shower was nice.

Got placed in the room closest to the Lobby Bar which wasn't ideal for someone trying to get a good night's sleep. Noisy until 11p-Midnight.

Somewhat disappointing considering all

We had a wonderful view of Lake Lugano with a balcony with chairs and table but paid many Swiss francs for same. We expected a more posh experience, considering all. Staff was mostly pleasant and helpful, particularly at Reception, but one server at breakfast was rude for no reason. We think that he was a poor representative for the hotel since we made no special requests at all, just coffee. Ridiculous behavior when we paid $US 500/night for a panoramic view of Lake Lugano and what we would expect as polite service. Sad. We paid for parking, and it was very convenient. We thought the public rooms on the first floor and the garden on the second floor welcoming and pleasant. We would not return.

Great location on the lake. Small but clean, modern and well kept rooms and bathrooms. Very good breakfast in a large dining area.

Iron could have been provided in the room. The shared ironing room was a hot and dark storage room next to the main hotel building.

Lovely stay lakeside

We chose Hotel au Lac for its location, pool and excellent reviews. The location is phenomenal, staff were friendly, our extremely large room with a balcony overlooked the lake. It was very clean and staff were friendly and accommodating.

A bottle of water in the fridge/room would have been nice. they do have an honor bar open 24 hours with water, drinks and snacks and there is a fridge in the room. shampoo and conditioner would have been welcomed.

Fantastic hotel!

The hotel is fantastic, great location and the amenities in the hotel are fab. My boys loved the honesty bar. This is our second time visiting Lugano and this hotel although rated a 3star was much better than the 4star we used last time. From ping pong tables, go-karts happy hour it really is amazing. Staff we also so friendly and accommodating. Our room was lovely very spacious and boys beds had haribos on them. Can’t recommend it enough. We will definitely be back!

Beautiful old world charm on the lake

What a gem of a place at Lugano. Old world charm, spotlessly clean rooms, friendly and helpful staccato, lovely breakfast and right on the lake.

You can hear heavy footed neighbours upstairs due to it being an older building. Not a big problem though.

Great location, Beautiful town, a must see!

We have never been to Lugano and just picked this place randomly. Boy, did we nail it! Great location, great staff, and overall great experience. The place is a total throwback like you are staying in a royal castle or something. We were close to everything and what we weren't close to, the front desk explained how to catch a bus to (which was a short bus ride).

Overall the place was awesome, but the bed was not the most comfortable that I have ever slept on, and, maybe this is a Swiss thing, but there was no top sheet on the bed. Only a bottom sheet, and a comforter that is the exact size of the top of the bed...a bit strange.

Location by the lake and art mood hotel.

Great location near the lake and shopping street. I liked the hotel style with a lot of paintings by the walls and the Honesty Bar where you can get drinks (coffee, water, beer, wine etc) and some snacks, it's like minibar but out of the room. The breakfast was basic but still enough to make you not feel hungry. I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. Also I liked the Art Gallery just few minutes away from hotel where you can easily spend a few hours.

Could have been so much better.

A hard downhill walk with many steps from railway station. If you have walking difficulties please get a taxi. Room ready early and reasonable size. Reception staff were excellent, very helpful and happy to answer any questions.

Bar was "honesty" bar so it was soulless with very limited choices, no music and no atmosphere.

Hotel International Au Lac is a special property. The staff made my stay memorable. The front desk staff furnished quick check in, Ticino card, and hotel information. The cleaning staff provided thorough room service. The breakfast waiter and hotel chef gave a great start to every morning. The hotel is well located near public transport, retail, and restaurants.

Incredible views, Incredible Service!

The service was amazing! Everyone was super nice and helpful. The breakfast was made with all local ingredients/products. The hotel was centrally located and we got a beautiful view of the water and the room was huge!

The hotel is a little bit outdated but it’s also a historic hotel so I wouldn’t say this is a bad thing. May be better they keep as it is since there’s so much history in it!

Perfect stay in an absolutely lovely town!

Fully equipped kitchen in room. Bathrooms were awesome, with shower and bath in separate bathroom areas (kids loved the star light ceiling!). Loved the games and the swimming pool. Friendly staff. Good breakfast! Very nice location close to the lake! We would really recommend this hotel!

Lovely stay in a historic hotel

We were allowed early check in as our room was ready. The pool is fabulous. The breakfast was exceptional. Staff was highly professional. The shared areas outside the rooms were elegant and welcoming where you can relax and read and enjoy a drink. Very good location by the lake with easy access to city. We had room with view of pool and terrace in back.

Value for money, good location!

Location was very nice and central to walk around, or take the bus and ferry. Breakfast was okay, staff at reception and restaurant were lovely.

Hotel is a little old-school, and the room was a bit tiny - but okay for us as we didn't spend a lot of time inside. Perhaps the hotel could have told us there is a cable car available, as Google Maps took us a different way with a LOT of stairs (atleast going down!)

I just want to go back. I had the best time. The hotel has a view of the lake, the location is unrealistically convenient. I loved the 'honest bar', I loved the generosity and warmth outlook behind the 'honest bar'. The staff were very friendly and loved the private backyard/garden/pool area with the lake view.

My only wish was if I had a better view of the lake. :P

Exceptional

We love everything in this hotel. It is charming and full of characters. They share the history of the hotel along the corridor, including some really nice painting. Perfect location to stay in Lugano. Short walk to the shops, restaurant, and supermerket. Big park with playground nearby so you can enjoy the lake walk and finish it off at the park. Lovely breakfast with great service staff. Mini bar in lounge area with complimentary tea and coffee. We stay in family suites at back next to the play area so my son can enjoy himself there with minimum supervision. My room comes with pantry and kitchenette so you can cook if the easy meal if needed.
