Very useful stopping point near Dunkirk and Calais

Breakfast was outstanding, but the dinner was also very good. We had 2 rooms in the annexe in a beautifully restored building. The ceilings were very high and redolent of former glories

Nice traditional hotel in a beautiful setting, accessible for Dunkirk and the ferry ports.

We stayed here after getting a late ferry into Dunkirk - traditional hotel which has been refurbed recently. Rooms are clean and well equipped.

Nothing - I didn’t get to stay long enough to experience the town and the restaurant.

Excellent location in the centre of town, free parking, secure undercover storage for our bicycles. Beautiful old hotel in style with the Flemish surroundings. Very clean with modern facilities. Blackout shutters and a good nights sleep. Great choice for breakfast in the breakfast room which is adjacent to the stunning restaurant. A three course evening menu option was a very good choice. All the staff were very helpful and friendly.

The location.

We didn't like because the toilet is separated from the bathroom and has no sink. We have to use the toilet and cross the room to wash the hands. Not comfortable at all! The bath curtain could be replaced, there is a lot of stain!

Village lovey host crap

The town second town visiting the same hotel and Village

Shower was broken, host was rude booking.co says 13pm check in she was rude and hostile she said 3pm . Room was ok shutters in the bedroom but bathroom has window n the bedroom but bathroom doesn’t have shutters, absolutely crap night sleep on lays day of our trip really spoilt it

Convenient location for the tunnel. Food and drink available. Situated in an interesting walled town. Rooms are fine for an overnight stop. Good breakfast too.

Minimal gluten free options in the restaurant so we ate elsewhere and no gluten free bread etc. available at breakfast which at 12€ is a bit of a rip off. My wife is coeliac

Good place to break journey - but so much more!

A really charming hotel, quirky, but with everything you need. A great location in the centre of the village, secure parking, dog welcome. Staff are fabulous. Very convenient for Calais and Dunkirk. Only came here because we needed a stopover on a long drive, but will definitely return.

Great Hotrl, avoid any saints day!

Great location and lovely room with a fireplace.

It was a saints day on the day we stayed and therefore all restaurants were closed! We asked the staff about where to eat but they couldn’t really help. I was rather disappointed that they didn’t offer us anything, especially as they are a hotel which offered a very good breakfast, and it has a restaurant, which looked good btw, I would have expected them to be able to supply us with something to eat. We ended up eating in the local “chippy style” place.

A lovely comfortable hotel with superb meals which is in the centre of town and excellent value.

This is a lovely old hotel in a quiet location in the centre of the town. We were in a subsidiary building a few yards from the main hotel. Our room was old but with very modern touches such as electric blinds. The shower was excellent and the bed very comfortable. We ate dinner and breakfast in the hotel. Both meals were excellent and the breakfast was one of the best we have experienced in France. There was scrambled eggs, delicious bacon and sausage plus a wide range of cold meats, hard-boiled eggs, breads, cakes etc. The home-made yogurt was gorgeous along with the fruit salad. I ended the meal,with the most delicious chocolate cake. Believe me, the food here is superb and the staff are lovely.

We had booked parking but our Landrover Discovery could not get through the garage door into the parking area behind the hotel because the road was too narrow to get the right angle and the door kept descending before we were able to enter. Thankfully there were some parking spaces outside the hotel but, had this been the high season and not October, we might have had a problem. I would have liked some rugs on the bedroom floor which was bare wood.

Our regular stop en route to/from Dunkirk

We stayed here before in June on a short trip to Rouen and were very happy to stay again in September at the end of a 17 day car trip down to the Pyrennees and back. Bergues is a handsome and compact little town with everything you need for a short stay - and only 20 mins from the Dunkirk ferry. Au Tonnelier is right in the centre, with easy parking. The rooms are very comfortable, with quality fittings and comfortable beds. We had room 36 (again) which is in the older, quieter block ... not very big, but a lovely view of the church, whose bells are very tuneful in the moprnings (no, they don't ring at nights ...!). Recommended ... and also Le Bruegel, an ancient and friendly brasserie/restaurant down by the canal - be advised though, book ahead!

A pleasant stay in a beutiful city.

The location was super, right in the heart of the city. There was private off road parking. The staff were very friendly and helpful in changing one of our rooms for one with easier access for a guest with limited mobility. The rooms were clean and well appointed. It was great to see that many of the original features of the old building had been kept.

No boiling water at breakfast for tea making!
