The rain! But that isn't the hotels fault. It has rained for 45 continual days this Winter

Very comfortable and beautiful location
Because of Christmas parties I returned to the hotel to find the car park full with no alternative parking nearby so had to wait for the party goers to go home very late in the evening before I could return to my room.

We love the location and friendly staff. Good food and clean room
He property need and upgrade. Simple things could make a big difference. Fixing broken shutters in the bedroom and replacing missing curtain could make a big difference at little cost

Meals good value.
Our twin bedroom ( No 3 ). This room was very cold, (very little heating), should have been redecorated years ago, and should not be let out in the state it is in, plastic louvre blinds in very poor state, had too use suitcases to keep them closed, stopper in hand basin did not operate, so water just kept running out, ( no good for a shave), very poor. Came down for our evening meal, the dinning room was cold, and the same at breakfast. We booked in, and paid for three nights, we arrived at 15.30. 5/12/25. and departed 10.30 am on 6/12/25. Did not bother about discussing a refund for the two nights we would not be there, we just wanted to go. This is the first time, in many years, that we have been let down by Booking.com.

Stains on the carpet
Wallpaper peeling off
Dust everywhere especially behind the bed
Mould in the shower
Shower door broken
No toilet roll holder

The food was amazing. We stayed there prior to catching the ferry the following day, so would have liked more time to explore the local surroundings as it would be perfect for hiking. The staff are very friendly. Ticks all the boxes.

Bar area and restaurant were comfortable and well laid out. The food was excellent. The bar choice was reasonable.
Outside area needs a revamp. Decking area has weeds everywhere and rotting wood. Windows need to be cleaned. Paintwork inside and outside needs attention. General grass areas and car parks had litter.
Tv signal in the bedroom was erratic especially for BBC channels. Shower area had shelves that needed replacing.

Breakfast was just as we ordered. Would have liked orange juice as well as coffee without having to ask for it. Toast could have been earlier coming, especially when there was no toast , potato or bread with the cooked food. We could not understand why we had to pay for unlimited toast as an extra as it is the cheapest item to buy.
The stairs.

Stunning location.
Dirty run down. Looks like no one has spent any money in years. The building is dirty needs a good clean. No staff. Waited 20 mins to be checked in. Rang bell 5 times. Eventually a kitchen Porter checked me in, same when I left. Communal areas filthy, carpet needs a good clean. Broken light in bathroom. Loo didn't flush. The whole place smells of damp and mould. The reception area has huge water stain on ceiling.

Had a pleasant welcome and breakfast was good
The hotel is a little tired but clean. My room was a single and quite small but adequate for what I required for 1 night.

Main staff member was incredibly attentive.
Dinner the jight before was really tasty
Room was very comfortable with sizable en suite.
Breakfast was exactly what we wanted
Would happily stay here again.
Obviously short on staff so it appeared that it was the one staff member doing all the work - serving, cooking, clearing etc. Would probably have been better if at least one more staff member had been on

The location is absolutely amazing! Near the national park, surrounded by animals and nature. The people who work there were exceptionally kind. From the lady who cleans to the receptionist and restaurant staff. Everyday I was greeted with a smile and pure kindness. The beds were comfortable and we had a balcony looking over the nature, city and the sea. The roads behind the hotel are gorgeous! We have had a Sunday Roast in the restaurant. It was great and the service was great aswell.
The location is quiet and peaceful.
Just a heads up, these were minor things.
I wish that we had a fridge in the room and seeming its a very old building, it can get very loud in the morning. Someone was doing something with the chairs and tables i suppose, on the patio at 8 in the morning and it was incredibly disturbing. So bring your earplugs and you’ll be fine because the location overall is perfect!

Lovely location, staff were really friendly and helpful. Room was a decent enough size and the bed was reasonably comfortable and the sink looked new. The breakfast was nice. Restaurant seems to have been done up and there's a pool table. The supplied soaps were lovely. plenty of space to park.
Place does need some tlc, wallpaper peeling off, my rooms main light didn't work but luckily the 2 lamps gave plenty of light. Was quite a bit of dust and some cobwebs. Walls were quite thin, shower door struggled to close, car park is rather bumpy and horrible to turn out of because you can't see what's coming. I did lock my door when I went out after the first night and when I got back the door was ajar and unlocked, luckily nothing was taken but I'm assuming housekeeping had gone in and not locked it afterwards? I think for the price you pay could probably include cereal or something with it but that's me being really picky.

The location was excellent… And the staff could not have been more genial and kind…
The bed was very comfortable and we had a view of the moor. If you looked down, you could see the car park but if you look straight ahead, you had a bit of a hill and plenty of greenery and could see sheep.
Breakfast was great! And we ate at the hotel twice in the evening… So I was very happy with the food
Well, to be honest, the whole place needs a refurb, a bit scruffy, but that’s sort of thing doesn’t bother me as long as the bedroom and bathroom are clean… which they were in the main… the bed was extremely clean and comfortable. The sink could be cleaner around the overflow. I would say again… I like the relaxed feel anyway… And the fact that there was a pool table was nice actually… When we came in we had a quick game.
The place does really need updating and freshening up, but as I say that’s all thing doesn’t really bother me.

Me and my partner have visited the Moorland many times. We love it there, lovely hotel with a kind of old fashioned feel. Located on the edge of Dartmoor, with Plymouth around half an hours drive its perfect for us.
From our first visit, the staff are friendly and have always made us feel welcome. Its our favourite place to stay whenever we visit the Moors.

The welcome was really friendly and helpful. The room was extremely clean and comfortable. The food not only tasted lovely and there was plenty of it , it was also excellent value. The people owning it have lots of plans to bring the decor back to life, so if you can ignore the slightly sad appearance you will have a wonderful stay. I plan to go back and lives a long way away.

We asked for a room with a view and we got one! Rooms are a decent size as is the bathroom and we had a little balcony overlooking the moors and Plymouth Sound beyond. Complete with Tea and Coffee making facilities. Bed was comfy, very peaceful. Attentive service at reception and in dining room. Dinner was very nice, good selection, cooked to order so takes a little time, breakfast excellent and no waiting as you pre-order the evening before. Definitely good value for money. All round a very pleasant stay and would happily stay again.
Public toilets downstairs, need a little more attention at busy times.

View over Plymouth and Sea from the Front of the hotel, the large car park and dining area. Bed comfort, nice towels, lots of hot water and shower pressure.
Room was NOT a twin as booked and PAID for (owner apparently changed it when I arrived on my own without discussing with me first!!!). The room (18) suffered badly from machine noise (Air Con/Heating?) 24 hours a day. There was obvious water damage to floor in bathroom, windows that didn't shut, TV buzzed so loudly unable to use and not all buttons on remote worked and shower created a pool on the window sill.
