Lovely old school Hotel, very friendly staff, a place for that "little extra".

The garden is lovely, the location perfect with the bus just by the property to bring you to the center of Lugano in 5 min., two restaurants, both very good with attentive staff, the lobby area is grand and reminds of how it used to be to travel, great piano player durning drinks and dinner, lovely spa area.

I would not have minded a proper afternoon tea offering, which includes (and displays) some of the lovely cake and pastry from breakfast. As cake is actually preferred as an afternoon treat, by many and the public areas of the place would be more lively during afternoons.

Relaxing and destressing.

I like the location going to the hotel which i pass through the beautiful park . The hotel was sorrounded with lots of well choreograph plants and tress, beautiful balkon facing the lake.

Perfect stay in Lugano

Again all perfect. Beautiful hotel. Ideally situated and easy to walk into the city. Very nice "beach" at the lake. Nice breakfast buffet and overall very good service + price-value-ratio.

At the breaktfast the service could be a little bit better coordinated. Especially when many people are coming at the same time, the team get's in trouble. E.g. two few plates are ready, the team loose time to coordinate plates instead of focusing on guests, etc.

Beautiful but expensive location

The location of the hotel is quite beautiful overlooking Lake Lugano. It’s an easy 20mins walk or short bus ride into town. The bus stop is right outside the entrance so very easy. The Lido is directly across the road so you are able to relax & swim with direct access to the lake. We hired a boat for the day which was wonderful. Take a picnic & swim in the lake it’s wonderful. The hotel staff were charming & always willing to give advice. But interestingly the advice seemed more reactive you have to ask rather than are given information.

This is tricky as the hotel is regal & elegant. It’s traditional but in places dated. We found the breakfast very limited. If you like carbohydrates perfect. But fruit is very limited as are any healthy options. We felt additional charges were petty & annoying for a 5 star hotel - a portion of berries chf 18 the equivalent of £18. Poached egg £10, additional tea or coffee pods in your room £1 each. Room Staff seemed to not replace water, coffee we were constantly asking. It’s poor for a 5 star hotel. The most disappointing was the additional charges for small petty things. The restaurants we had very good & very poor meals for an exceedingly expensive price tag. Also watch the taxis as the wind on the fare. Twice we caught taxi drivers doing this trying to add on £15 to £20 extra. Pay up front - ask the hotel what the price should be & / or just be vigilant.

The staff were fantastic — from the receptionist who found the perfect room for my elderly mother, to the charming waiters and the spa lady who made relaxation an art form. They turned a lovely stay into something truly memorable.

View is spectacular. Room very pretty.

Very disappointing. We were not told about the Lido club. We found it on day 3 of a 4 night stay. We were given bus passes on day 2. All should have been done at time of check in. Our room wasn't even ready and we sat outside the front desk for a good hour waiting. Bar staff needs more 5 star training. They need to clean tables after guests leave. Every time we sat down it was filthy. The AC is directly over the bed which is brutal. Could not sleep with it on so it was very warm. Not very comfortable. Another annoyance was being awaken every morning while staff bickered and argued while setting up the breakfast at 6am. Breakfast was not the best. Ends at 10:30. 11 would be better. Items sitting out for hours. We skipped it the last few days. Best service was at the Arte restaurant. Samuel the youngest server should be teaching a master class in service.

Perfect getaway to peace and beauty

We absolutely loved everything about our stay: the staff were so friendly and attentive, the views were gorgeous, the room was magnificent, the beds comfortable, and the spa was clean and quiet, with the massages so great and relaxing. We also loved the breakfast spread. It’s a nice stroll into town and the hotel is in a quiet area. Perfect for a getaway and melt away the stress! I definitely want to return and if you have any second thoughts about booking, just do it 😊

When I ordered anything , in the phone they said it will be charge five CHS each time I paid for the room service, after I pay in cash they told me to sign the invoice, and each time I order a room service i pay cash and they tell me to sign, in the check out, the hotel charged me for the room services, I told them to ask the kitchen that I paid in cash, the kitchen replied that the payment I paid it was a tip, each time I am paying the exact payment whether it is 5 CHS OR MORE according to the invoice, at the check out when I explained to them that no one tells me it is a tip, and how it is a tip and I am paying the exact payment mentioned in the invoice in cash? They told me that ok we will change the invoice and they will cancel some room services charges, the second invoice was more than the previous invoice, I felt there is no honesty in part of them. I do-not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Lovely as always..

Stunning views, great serviced private lido, great location, great staff, good food, great cocktails. Very dog friendly. It is always nice to return to villa castagnola. The lovely mediterranean garden and most of all everyone working at this hotel is extremely friendly and helpful making the stay exceptional. Can recommend enjoying a room service meal watching the sunset from the balcony.

Note this is just feedback on improvement opportunities: Breakfast choices limited (choice of fresh fruits and cold cuts) coffee quality at breakfast for a five star hotel could be better.. No discussion needed to get more than 1 towel at the lido especially given the fact the towels being too small to cover the sunbed.. I acknowledge though the effort on sustainability - just get bigger ones the

The location is very nice with lake view and the hotel staffs are very friendly. Furthermore, hotel lobby is cozy and decorated elegantly.

Breakfast was rather average and the bread was not so special. Besides, the room was hot, so we wanted to reduce the heat/temperature, but the radiator was not working. It’s not energy efficient.

Very chic hotel with amazing view. Great spa area. Breakfast is good, many kinds of pastry, but as for vegetables there were only tomatoes. We’re traveling with a dog and it was so nice when we enter the room and saw small treatments for our pet, as well as a special towel. Defiantly would like to come back. Great spa area.

The property is split into two parts, 1 is the main building where you enter and the second is an adjoining separate block of rooms. The second block of rooms seems to have been added later and was much colder and not as nice inside. This part of the property also lacked modern climate control heating/air conditioning which could be controlled by clients. Additionally there is no kids swimming pool which made it difficult for my wife and I to use the pool whilst with my son.
