Hotel Rhein-Ruhr by Mayburgh Bottrop Hauptbahnhof

First very important thing to address is that you MUST arrive before 5pm to check in. Although it was stated that the concierge is open till 7pm, it the physical staff clocks out at 5pm and locks up the main entrance sliding glass doors. So, without a room card, you're locked out if you haven't yet checked in. I was stuck outside for half an hour before some kind soul returning to their rooms managed to open the gate so I can use the self check-in kiosk. The hotel is located adjacent to the train station, also right next to an Edeka supermarket, so those are very accessible. The self check-in is simple, with multiple languages available. I have gotten a handicapped-accessible room, so the room and bathroom was spacious. While clean, the room is missing a mini-fridge, a key feature one would expect even in a basic hotel. This means food brought back couldn't be kept for the next day. The lobby has a layout confusing to first-day visitors, where the lift would open to the back of the hotel instead of the front, and the internal gate to the lobby would be locked after 5pm as well and you'd have to leave through a side gate and walk around the building to the front if you wanted to reach the lobby again. I've only met the hotel staff while they were restocking the breakfast counter, and they were non-verbal. They have a pleasant housekeeping system that rewards you if you didn't need housekeeping that day, usually a candybar. Overall, the stay was decent if all you're looking for are basic amenities and somewhere to stay the night. Would I stay here or recommend this hotel? Yes, but I'd also check for better options first.
