Monasterium is a very good 3 star; clean, interesting, good location & breakfast; friendly staff.

The gentleman at the desk helped me change my room near the elevator when there was an unpleasant medicinal smell. He was very friendly and attentive to make sure the new room was good, and offered me a few options. My new room was very good and looked out on a courtyard.

Location good, car parking good.

The water in the bathroom was cold ( not lukewarm but cold) on the night of our stay and again the next morning. For the price charged I think this is unacceptable. Reception staff didn’t seem concerned so this is obviously a well known occurrence. Poor show

Me and my mum had a lovely stay. We went there to visit the Christmas market, which was lovely.

It had quite a bit of character and close to the centre.

I don’t really like hotels where you have to go outside to your accommodation. Also €25 a night for parking seems a lot when you’re already paying a lot to stay there.

Very sad that the Slot wing is being torn down to create more modern rooms. Those ancient rooms with modern comfort were magical and the reason I kept coming back.

Great location, wonderful staff - somewhat noisy and rooms could be more interesting given the history of the building.

Really helpful staff. Great location. Nice exterior but rooms don’t have the individual charm of the exterior.

Very noisy in the central courtyard even fairly early in the morning and sound really carries. Likewise noisy from other guests as sound carries a lot. Booking was expensive for the type and size of the room.

OK but disappointing and overpriced

Very unusual and a great location

The cost to park is€25 per day which when the room was €147 seems excessive. Breakfast was also extra at €25 pp. not good value for money. Room very noisy.

25 euros for parking one night seems steep for a hotel and breakfast was the same!

Position is perfect for the town and room was spacious and very clean.

Disappointing stay – not as expected

Location was ok

Unfortunately, our stay didn’t meet expectations. It wasn’t mentioned anywhere that the accommodation is located in an annex or separate building, which felt misleading. The space was very dark, with limited natural light, and lacking in basic essentials. The kitchen was there, but without plates, utensils, or cookware – which made it practically unusable. Overall, not what we were hoping for.

Perfect but anti-mosquito facility is a must for standard rooms

I booked one standard room for me and my fiancee and one more premium double room for my parents. Both rooms are extremely neat and clean, it's an unbelievable standard of cleanness. The premium one is perfect with the air conditioning!

However, there were so many mosquitoes due to the plants, and as my fiancee and I lived in the standard room, there was no air conditioning, and we must open the window due to the heat. But it was impossible to sleep because of mosquitos. Our suggestion is: as a 4-star hotel, even though it cannot install the air conditionner due to the building structure, it should install the anti-mosquito nets on windows. At best, providing fans would be perfect in summer.

The ‘double bed’ was made of 2 single beds pushed together and made up separately. Car parking was limited. Had to park in a local underground multi storey which was tight with a larger car

Not for people with mobility issues

The location is ideal for trips to the amazing old town, offering a lot of paid(!) parking space in the yards. It is a historic monastery building and the monastery atmosphere is enhanced by the furniture and decorations. Who likes it, will be excited. The beds are comfortable.

First night, I received a room at the highest storey accesible ONLY by steep stairs, no lift! It was sooo high!! When I saw it, I was quite crying in dispair!! I have real mobility issues. For me, it was impossible to get there with any luggage, so a lady from the reception took my luggage to the room, but I needed so much time to get there, that I decided to go to bed without dinner, hungry. With such pains in my knees, it was impossible to get down and back on that evening. Next morning I hardly went down and asked for an other room again. They brougt my luggage and I could move to a room in an other building, but to get to the lift, I had to take several stairs with the luggage again...this hotel is really nothing for people with mobility issues!

Beautiful building in the city centre

Location in city center, walking distance to most attractions. Fantastic building and spacious room and bathroom. Comfortable single beds, acting as a double.

Parking 25 Euro and you have to leave by 2PM, otherwise you pay another 25 Euro. We had hoped to stay there the afternoon as well. We arrived the evening before at around 8 PM.

Our room had was not air conditioned. From pictures it looked like some rooms did. Fortunately the it was cool at night with the windows open, but would be uncomfortable in warmer weather.

Great place in Ghent!

Unusual kind of building - old monastery, it has unique atmosphere, spacious rooms, wifi seemed stable and reliable, staff was pleasant, location is good and within walking distance to the old town.

Since it's an old building the floorboards can be quite creaky which was unfortunately causing some noise early in the morning when the guests above us were walking around their room.

Interesting stay in a good locaiton.

This hotel had a lot of character. The location was great. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It was once a monastry so it reflects the room designs.

I would have picked a room which was in the renovated section of the hotel. Our older style room had a toilet which was separate to the bathroom, there was no mini fridge or any other handy kitchen items. There was also a very creepy picture on the wall which we took down temporarily while we were there. In saying so, the price was good.

Beautiful stay for my Belgium Christmas experience

The property at first glance was beautiful. The staff were very friendly, they proactively informed us of our options with our car and also the additional charges as per the city rule. The room was cosy & clean with a decent variety of breakfast options.

Lovely old buildings, situated within walking distance of the city centre

The monasterium are in fact several buildings. I know only the one I had my room in, and have an impression of the building where the breakfast room was. It is very beautifully laid out, and the location, so close to the city centre, is very nice. Breakfast was abundant, with lots of choice & good quality food.

To get to my room I had to navigate 6 staircases, as that specific building didn’t have a lift. I know some of the other buildings do have a lift, so if you need one be sure to ask for it when you book your room. Or stay at the ground floor, obviously.

A quirky location, unlike many others

The family room was spacious and comfy. They served Prosecco as party of the breakfast!

Good accommodation, bad breakfast

The family room has two floors, big enough and comfortable for 2 adults with children.

The breakfast was poor, we haven’t found anything to eat for our kid, but after all we managed the breakfast costs with the reception team. They said they try to improve the breakfast. Right now it’s too bad and too expensive - 25 Euro per person.

Exceptional

We loved our stay at Hotel Monasterium PoortAckere, it was perfect for our family of four. There was two separate bedrooms both with ac and mini fridges. The beds where comfy and shower was good. The staff where all very lovely, I would 100% recommend this hotel.
