The room was very clean. And had what we needed.

The location, view, food was 10/10 and staff were very friendly.

The on-site shop was very well stocked and particularly useful for picking up things for our onward journey. We also had dinner at the hotel and the fish was very fresh. As a family travelling with a young child and dog, we really appreciated the dog run and the small park, which were both great facilities.

Unfortunately, overall we found the stay quite disappointing. We booked specifically because the hotel was advertised as pet friendly, and our dog was included in our Booking.com booking. I was aware that there would be an additional charge for bringing our dog, so this itself was not an issue. The problem was that when we arrived, the hotel did not appear to know we had a dog with us and we were moved from the room we had originally booked to a smaller, lower-category dog-friendly room. The staff member acknowledged that the new room was smaller. However, there was no corresponding reduction in the room rate as far as we could see, and we were still charged the pet supplement and an additional charge for two breakfasts. I had understood breakfast to be included in the rate I had booked, so I was surprised by this additional charge. The room was also on the ground floor, with staff and other guests regularly walking past and parking directly outside. People could look straight into the room, which made it feel very exposed. After a long day of travelling with a two-year-old, the only real place for us to relax was on the bed, but we didn’t feel particularly comfortable doing so with people continually passing and looking in. The following morning, using the shower triggered the fire alarm. We were told the system was very sensitive, and although we had the bathroom door closed and the fan running, it still happened. I appreciate this was due to the sensitivity of the system rather than something the hotel could easily prevent, but I found the way this was handled quite uncomfortable and I felt like I was being reprimanded for something I hadn’t knowingly done. More generally, we found the hotel very self-service and lacking the warmth and hospitality we had hoped for. We had specifically chosen a hotel rather than self-catering accommodation because we were looking forward to some warm Scottish hospitality.
