Unbelievably bad

The room was not as advertised and the bar and lounge areas were closed due to building work – we are issuing a county court summons to recover money paid for substandard accommodation

No private bathroom open plan shower in the room restricted height toilet not able to stand up – everything about the hotel was as bad as could be masquerading as a four star hotel

Should be nice when it’s finished

The styling of the rooms was modern and attractive and comfortable. The location is excellent

The property is undergoing major reconstruction with much of the hotel including the bar area were unfinished. Some areas were tatty and looked worse being next to refurbished areas. The underground car park is dangerously tight spaced and almost inaccessible. The staff although friendly were not very knowledgeable about the food and wine on the menu. The food was fairly average but expensive.

Although we were told the bar was temporarily closed for refurbishment we didn't know that the whole hotel was impacted. Lots of disruption in all areas and having to go outside in the rain for the toilets was not good.

Really great stay. Did love the hotel. Loved the bath and shower- very nice and modern- except the bath plug didnt work properly so it kept draining. Location was brilliant, right on the river

The breakfast wasnt included as we thought it was when we booked. The receptionist was nice but when we checked in the receptionist was very pushy about us not wanting breakfast. When we said no, she acted very shocked and said why, why, wouldn't you do that. You get 2 free glasses of champagne etc. I was pregnant so I explained that wasnt really an incentive and she seemed almost annoyed we didnt book. Also the parking was £30 a night for on site which I thought was rediculous as we already paid to be a guest

miserable ....

the 2 staff i met were very nice; the receptionist and her colleague behind the bar ..

the atmosphere: sadly the place was empty, the courtyard was empty the bar was empty. the room was really cold, the bedding damp, i borrowed a hotwater bottle on saturday to air the bed and managed to open the one window to air the room .... but first night i was frozen, second night with hotwater bottle better but i didn't use the shower as the bathroom was cold with the towel rail off ... it was hopeless. it's really sad to write this because in the past i have had some great stays at the hotel du vin both in bristol and henley so this caught me out .... i loved the place sometime ago hence i was looking forward to enjoying a weekend with my family ....

A gem on Thames

Fabulous room, great location, and excellent food! We had a wonderful stay — the room was spotless and comfortable, the location was perfect, and having car parking was a huge plus. The food was really good, and the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Huge shout out to Rukesh, Holly, and Svetiana — you made our stay extra special. Thank you!

A disappointing visit on this occasion

The staff were polite and courteous during what must be severe disruption from buildings works

This hotel used to be so chic and luxurious during our last stay in 2018. We were not told about building works inside the hotel. The main interior spaces were soulless and depressing. The interior of the bar was not somewhere to relax and enjoy. The fire alarm was activated twice on each day of our 2 day stay. We ate elsewhere on both evenings. We mourned for happier days!

Very quiet and lacked atmosphere. Appreciate this is no fault of the hotel.However the main complaint is that as an ex Brakspears Brewery it did not sell Brakspears and limited beers .

Wonderful stay in a unique property

Beautiful property. Excellent location enjoyed the breakfast and dinner one night. The room was large and the bed very comfortable. The shower area needs to have a slip resistant floor as even the mats still caused you to be very cautious.

In the Taylor room just the floor of the shower otherwise everything was just fine.

What a let down. This property should have been closed during major renovations.

In general staff were friendly and tried to be helpful.

We lived in Henley on Thames a number of years back and decided to make a return trip after 10 years away. When we lived there Hotel Du Vin was a favoured destination for dinner and relaxing drinks so that was the obvious place to stay for our return visit. When we arrived at the hotel we discovered to our horror that we were staying in a building site. Reception was closed off, the restaurant had been relocated to a meeting room and a general feeling of dust around the building. We had been given no warning whatsoever that this work was taking place which is totally unacceptable. When I challenged the receptionist her response was that she could not get in touch with me - my mobile number was clearly visible on her booking reservation ! When challenged on this she replied that it was an Irish mobile and her line at reception only allowed her to make U.K calls - what a lame and utterly unacceptable excuse.

The bedroom needed an urgent refurb. It was plenty big enough but the furniture looked like it had been bought from a jumble sale. The bathroom was in equally bad need of a refurb. This was not what we expected from the price we paid for the room.

This hotel has returned to the best place to stay in Henley

This place has had a serious re vamp . Having visited many times over the years there must be a recent change in management as the hotel has returned to its original superb level of hospitality. The staff are fantastic on every level and the rooms which have recently been refurbished are of a very high comfort level . Very good stay and highly recommended

Nice hotel on the face of things but largely disappointing.

Very expensive and poor value for money! No breakfast included in the price and considering one night was £267 I thought this was just sheer brass neck!!! On top of the price of the hotel (nil breakfast) there was also a £15 charge for parking!

Disappointed

The ensuite was fabulous and huge! The breakfast was superb as were the attentive breakfast staff. The evening meal was lovely and the staff very helpful with menu choice especially for allergy sufferers. Great location in Henley, quiet but really close to the river and town centre.

The window in our room overlooking the inner courtyard was sealed shut, it was a very warm day and night and the aircon automatic ventilation system was not working, the room was stifling with no air. We reported this twice to the front desk and were only offered a very noisy fan. We were told an engineer was being sent to check the ventilation air system but the man who came with the old fan did not seem to know how anything worked and actually 'shrugged his shoulders'. We felt we were not believed, more dismissed. We had a very uncomfortable night which is a shame as this was our 35th wedding anniversary and we honeymooned in Henley so we're keen to return. We chose a hotel du vin because we have stayed at others and they have been excellent. I would expect better from a 4 star hotel and the price, sorry we would not stay again. We are not used to complaining but we hope the staff get some training in customer service. At checking out, we were offered an upgrade, if we returned, to us that was not the point we should have had a better service whilst staying at the hotel.

Staff were very helpful. Bedding felt luxurious. Room was large and well appointed.

Aircon was ineffective. Dormer windows rattled in the wind. Most of the hotel taken over by a wedding party in the courtyard, so everyone had to listen to that until around midnight.

Hotel du Vin Henley

The location is fantastic and the concept of the hotel is good. Breakfast staff were friendly. Bathroom toiletries good. River suite view amazing. Check OUT lady was very nice.

I have stayed at hotel du vin a few times over many years. The river view suite I paid an extra upgrade, the room feels extremely tired and well used. It is for sure in need of a brush up. It look liked the bathroom area has had some form of paint upgrade however the foot stool, flooring and window shades just feel old. For the amount you pay, especially as I would say at a premium hotel, for sure Hotel du Vin sadly in Henley has lost its charm. When we arrived it was unfortunate that there was no one on reception and we had to find someone from the restaurant. We were early so could not check in, no problem. Our bags were left in the reception area and we were told that they would be safe however to me this should not happen and bags should be secured out of sight. When we did come back and check in and had another person check us in, the check in lady felt cold, not too friendly and it’s felt not special at all. Again in my opinion Hotel du vin has been a premium chain and the check in certainly was not premium at all. We did enjoy Henley very much, the room view was amazing and the breakfast team friendly however sadly do not feel I would stay here again.

Beautiful hotel, amazing room, lovely staff however noisy barking dog disturbed our sleep

Beautiful hotel, perfect location in the heart of Henley, lovely relaxing bar area, very friendly staff. Our room was beautiful, with a massive comfortable bed, big free standing bath, large shower and lots of other amenities like bathrobes, slippers, tea, coffee & hot chocolate (we don't drink tea/coffee & hotel rooms very rarely provide hot chocolate), biscuits, iron & ironing board, bottle opener, etc. Free secure parking.

The only negative was that they allow dogs to stay, which is fine if they're well behaved. There was a dog in the room next to us who was barking all night long which disturbed our sleep. When we told the lovely lady at reception she apologised and said these owners have been told a number of times not to leave the dog in the room unattended but they keep doing it. We were offered a free upgrade on our next stay but I don't understand why these guests keep being allowed to stay with their noisy dog & disrupting other guests sleep?
