Seaside Hotel Mimatsu Ooetei

Great sea view .

A bit dated.

The hotel is located in the center of Beppu, 10 minutes work from the main train station, and right next to the seaside. It features nice baths, both indoors and outdoors. The room is in a traditional Japanese style, which I never tried before but it was a fun experience. The breakfast is also traditional Japanese style with a good selection of items and okay portion. The lobby has live piano music sometimes, and the general vibe is relaxing and cozy.

The air conditioner can be more powerful as not the whole room is properly cooled down with the strongest wind. Some places in the hotel can be worn off, including the bath pool facilities. The room has no private bath or shower, and you have to go to the public bathhouse if you want one.

Great food and not many toerist, more local people that uses this hotel for the dinner and spa.

We hoped to have a clean beach but this was not the case. If you go, go for the hotel, spa and food.

We stayed in a Japanese style family room, which was very spacious. The breakfast was a traditional style breakfast, which was served by very friendly staff. The staff in general were very kind and helpful.

Th toilet in our room was extremely small, barely usable for adults. But what was really unacceptable was the consistent smell of urine. Clearly the whole bathroom needed to be renovated. We stayed 2 nights and in hindsight we should have asked for a different room. The onsen area was underwhelming. Being in Beppu we had high expectations of the onsen, but they were really disappointing. No sauna or steam room, and the baths were very small and not nicely designed. Better to venture out to different public onsen in town.
