the seaside and closeness to nature was amazing. also the inhouse kitchen was good and the kitchen staff very kind.
even though there were 4-6 employees daily there they didn't really maintain the property.
every morning monkeys were roaming around which is really fun to watch and was charming. but of course they pooped on the property and especially the pier. that wasn't cleaned during our stay. also several lying chairs on the pier broke or were pooped on and no one took care of it.
instead you could buy weed and smoke all day long with the employees...

The other residents were mainly young backpackers and it was a pleasure to be in their company. We had some lovely interesting conversations with other guests in the communal area which doubles as the restaurant. The location is fabulous with loads of cheeky monkeys about attracting the attention of the owners five little dogs. The spectacle of watching the large fruit bats flying in from the islands just after sunset is worth seeing. I have been travelling to Thailand since I was a backpacker myself back in the late 80’s and 90’s and this is the nearest we have come to experiencing the delights of the former Thailand.
This is mainly a backpackers hostel with some air conditioned bungalows. Our stay in one of those bungalows was pleasant. To encounter a monkey sitting on the wall of the shower which has an open sky view early in the morning as my wife used the toilet is something she will treasure forever.
There is nothing we didn’t like about our stay here apart from the current owner - Oli is in the process of retiring. I have a feeling he will be missed!

I loved my stay here so much I’ve been recommending it to everyone on my trip! The best place I’ve stayed in Thailand for sure. It felt like an escape from all the over touristy busy hostels. Great common area, great views, very chill vibe, easy to be social, amazing activities, the bungalows are cheap, you can do glowing plankton straight off the pier - couldn’t recommend more

Perfect nature! I was literally 50 m. Away from the sea and woke up every morning with an amazing sea view. The atmosphere was very nice. The resort offered many additional activities.
I had a few encounters with frogs in my bathroom, however, I did expect this as I am staying in a bungalow in the jungle. 😁

Stunning remote hostel/bungalow resort suitable for solo travellers or couples/friends. Off-the-beaten-track-vibe with basic local restaurants and stunning beaches nearby. A refreshing change from Thailand’s busy tourist islands. Very well-organised set-up — good food, laundry, group activities, airport shuttle etc.
I stayed in a bamboo cabin which was charming, but the trade-off is that the walls are thin and you can hear monkeys, dogs, wind and the road. I would probably pick a dorm in the main building if you’re not so comfortable with that kind of proximity to nature, or splash out on a brick bungalow.

pier, sea&sunset view, events organised by resort, restaurant and bike rental and laundry and massage on the place. The stuff was very friendly and helpful.
every morning at sunrise monkeys got crazy around the bungalow and woke us up. No AC at our bungalow (but it is written in the description, so it is not an issue)

Incredible little resort that felt like home after just a few days there. The staff is always available and approachable in-person and over WhatsApp. Bungalows were spacious and private. On-site food was always delicious and the staff at Bananas makes the best coconut shake ever. The whole resort is shaded but with amazing views of the bay. Lots of hammocks and friendly company.

The current and previous owners are both lovely guys - you can see their warmth attracts great people and good vibes! The location is superb with great access to the Krabi islands and views but away from the crowds. The sleepy nearby town and restaurants and cafes make it a fantastic experience. You can easily rent motorbikes to explore, take a boat to the fish reataurant, join an island tour, or just hang out. There is a WhatsApp group for activities and getting to know other guests. The place is a great mix between hostel and hotel, with both younger and older travelers. Would love to come again!
Beware of monkeys!
Also some of the rooms/beds can use a deep-clean but overall were good.

The place is unique, I don't know if there is another one even remotely similar. Incredible peace and quiet, amazing views, a cottage in the middle of the forest, right on the seashore. The staff is very friendly, there is everything you need, including laundry, scooter rental, and excursions. The food is delicious. We will think about this place for a long time, and we hope to come back here.

This is the fourth time that I've stayed here and I'll definitely be back again.
The vibe is really cool, welcoming and peaceful. It's such a lovely place in general.
We go to chill out and swim in the bioluminescent plankton, the bioluminescence is unreal and is definitely something that should be on everyone's bucket list.
The monkeys at are very, very cute. And very, very naughty. Which is exactly how they should be running around wild and free in their element, it was a blessing to be around them.
This time I visited with my two teenagers but I've stayed both on my own and with friends. It's suitable for anyone, solo, family, partners or friends. The facilities are basic however they are as described so everything is transparent. I had a hot shower in my bungalow, my son didn't in his, however I know that there will soon be hot water fitted in all the accommodation so that shouldn't be an issue for long.
Food is served until 4pm and there is a stocked loyalty fridge available all night for snacks and drinks, both alcoholic and soft. I had the best massaman curry I've every tasted here, the food is super tasty and really reasonably priced. There's a nice bar a 2 minute walk away that serves food later in the afternoon and evening.
There are numerous trips and activities to do if you don't fancy a massage or chilling in a hammock. You can join a group if you want, or relish the silence.
It's not to everyone's taste. If you want 5* luxury then avoid. But if you want to be close to nature and away from the chaos of life and surrounded with like-minded people, then this is an oasis.
I absolutely love this place and can't recommend it highly enough.
Bed isn't the most comfortable I've ever slept in....

Wonderful sunsets in the evening from the pier; good staff and the food was excellent from the kitchen.
We did not know there was only cold water in the bamboo huts beforehand. There should be no smoking in the food area.

I absolutely loved the property, the location, the people. My faveourite hostel i've ever stayed at. It's not a party hostel, its super chill, slow living where you can connect with interesting people from all over. Quiet location with a private jetty and beach area that you can swim and chill on a deck chair. Everyone watches the sunset on here at a certain time and watch the fruit bats. fly past at 6pm . Loads of activities that management have put together in a book form if you want to do any - gorgeous little cafe and bar nearby and countryside - not short of being busy here but without the noise and stress of the towns and people - felt like a sanctuary
There is a mosque that sounded at 12am/ but just bring ear plugs, which you should already have for a hostel/unfamiliar accommodation

Just everything, the friendliest staff, the owners are extremely cool guys too, giving you all the information about the places to visit and organising and joining the evening gatherings for everyone (sunset on the beach, live music etc), I stayed in a single bed bamboo bungalow, super comfy, and you are falling asleep with the sounds of the surrounding forest, what better way is there, right?
Honestly, nothing.

The bungalows are in a very beautiful location, and the bungalows themselves are beautifully decorated. Love the colourful tiles and the hammocks. Walking down the long pier and watching sunset is quite nice as well.
If you get a bungalow in a quiet corner of the resort, I reckon this place would be pretty special.
I really wanted to love this place and was very excited to stay - but it just didn't meet expectations.
The first reason was likely due to the location of our bungalow, which was right next to the restaurant and it was constant noise. About 3pm both afternoons, as I was relaxing in the hammock trying to read, it seemed to be the staff's down time. And they sat right near us at the edge of the restaurant talking, laughing, and often yelling so loudly that it was hard to relax. Also, it seemed there were several small dogs that live at the bungalow (3 or 4 maybe?) which were put into crates with blankets over them in the restaurant/reception at night. And the dogs barked at EVERY noise they hear, waking us up several times both nights. The bungalow walls are super thin so it made it very difficult to get a good night's sleep.
The last issue, which might have been the worst, was the smell from the bathroom. After dozens of trips to Thailand and many other places in SE Asia over the years, I can honestly say this was the worst smell I've experienced. I usually don't mind because I know the drains aren't great there, but this got to the point that we burned a mosquito coil all day and night in the bathroom like an incense just to deal with the smell seeping over into the bedroom. We did let the owner know, and to his credit, there wasn't much he could do that evening when we told him, but he also didn't seem to think it was that bad.
My husband did send this all in an email to the owner earlier as a courtesy, and he was very kind and helpful in his response. But I wanted to leave an honest review.

Great stay with Olly and his team.
He took care for us a lot.
Nice huts and great breakfast.
Always interesting and happy bunch of people there.
Island tour really to recommend
No complains. A motor bike is needed best for sure to approach the resort.
For local tours it can be rented on site. Just ask Olly ;-)

This is a nice place right by the sea, lots of monkeys running around, the views are beautiful. The hosts are very helpful, the food is cooked well, some restaurants nearby as well.
a kettle in the room would have been nice.

All was perfect. Just the mosquito nets could be renewed.

Great setting of the resort, just at the seashore (quite muddy tho but very picturesque), mangrove forest just in front of the house. Great personell, Olli is a superb owner and host, very friendly and welcoming. His stuff is also great, willing to help with everything, cooking great meals and giving excellent massage.
Wifi range is quite limited but it gives you the opportunity to listen to the sea and the jungle instead of swiping socials ;)
Amount of wildlife may be overwhelming - monkeys, spiders, crabs, insects but c'mon - it is their home at first, not ours ;)

Ollie is a great host - this was the second time I stayed and Banana Bungalows and each time it's been perfect. The views from the pier are amazing, the sunsets, the food is good, the room is comfy and has mosquito nets. There are small restaurants on the main street and some good cafes not far. Ollie is extremely helpful and goes the extra mile to make sure his guests are happy. Also great for anyone who wants to be away from tourist crowds.

It was our best stay in Thailand so far ! This is paradise if you look for a quiet place with amazing landscapes and nature. You can use kayak for free at the hotel and go for a day trip among paradise islands with no tourist (from the pier of the hotel). The owner Oliver is super nice and friendly and will help you with any request (he's German but speaks perfectly Thai !). You can rent scooter as well at the hotel for 250 to 300 bth/day.
keep in mind this is a tourist off road, so party guys should not come here as it's a 30min ride to reach the closest city.

The best place I’ve ever been on this trip. Gorgeous nature, and it only gets more breathtaking when you walk in. High quality bungalows, super confortable! Ahh, Olli, the owner, is an amazing person!

The location. The friendly owner. The place is so peaceful, surrounded by nature. You can walk down to the beach through mangrove, cute pier to chill on. Can listen to nature, birds, the popping sound of mangrove. Monkeys roaming. At low water you can walk in far on the flat sea bed. Karst islands visible. Beautiful sunsets. We could use the communal fridge to put our drinks in there. The kitchen is closed due to consequences of covid, but there is a restaurant in walking distance. A special place. Will definitely return, thanks Olly.
Wanted to stay, it was hard to leave

I was among the few guests at this property. Which gave me the opportunity to have a premium location for my bungalow. Also the accommodation feels like home, which starts after you pass the barrier. The location is pretty, and perfect if you want to stay a bit further away Ao Nang or the famous Krabi beaches.
This has nothing to do with the property, but if you want to travel to Ao Nang, you’ll have to take in consideration that both a cab and a scooter can take up to 30 minutes to travel with to town.

Located just out of Thalane on a main road, Bananas was easy enough to find. The resort/bungalows are situated beside a mangrove forest with a timber walkway through to the ocean. Crab-eating macaque (monkeys) also inhabit this site. The owner-manager Ollie explained that due to the COVID induced downturn in Thailand's tourism, he has had to close his onsite restaurant, lay off staff, and limit his services. Even onsite repair and maintenance has had to be neglected due to lack of cash flow. A very sad situation and we feel for all in these drastic circumstances across Thailand. Obviously, those on-site closures impacted the general impression of the resort, for us as guests. We can say that owner-manager Ollie was a delight to deal with and was exceptionally hospitable, despite the situation he is in. We wish him well.
Perhaps in better times, with some update to room linen and general facilities, we would consider revisiting as it has the potential to present good value for money

I love Bananas Bungalows and Krabi itself. I came two years ago and decided to come back because this place is so special. This is the perfect relaxed hideaway for those who love the beauty of Krabi. Ollie and his staff are warm & kind, like staying with family. The gardens, mangroves, pier & bioluminescence in the water all make this place truly magical. This is not for someone who is looking for a quick transit stop or a party hostel. This is for the traveller who wants to slow down and soak in the beauty of Krabi's nature.
