The apartment is on the ground floor with a lovely piece of lawn in front with a swimming pool and views over the bay. There were loads of whales in the bay as it is breeding season. The unit is close to many restaurants and quaint little shops and we walked the famous beach path and swam in the tdal pools. There is secure parking underground in the basement.

74 On Marine Three week stay in 103
Guests - retired couple, frequent global travellers, wintering in the Wester Cape to avoid the cold and damp in England.
Prior to booking for February 2025 we researched extensively while renting a house in Hermanus in February 2024 and identified this sea front block with pool opposite Gearings Point as meeting our criteria.
Check in was smooth and efficient with the manager liaising by WhatsApp as we drove down from our previous accommodation in Paarl and greeting us on arrival to show us round.
The apartment is on the ground floor with direct access to the communal gardens and pool from the raised terrace accessed from the lounge sliding patio doors and is just as the photographs show it: spacious with a through lounge, dining area and kitchen and two huge double bedrooms each having their own large en suite bathroom with both shower and bath tub. The huge double bed is comfortable and there is ample wardrobe space and a safe for valuables (awkwardly located on the floor of the wardrobe and difficult to see to programme on hands and knees). There is also a separate WC. There is a small outside space to the rear, off the kitchen, where laundry can be dried, though a tiny expenditure on a new washing line is overdue!
The kitchen is well equipped with quality appliances, all in working order. Storage space is plentiful and crockery and glassware, utensils, cookware and dishes for food preparation, cooking and serving are plentiful. The only items in short supply seem to be cutlery which apparently disappears.
During our 3 week stay housekeeping visited weekly, changing the bed and replacing towels, tea towels, etc. Essentials such as washing up liquid, dishwasher tabs and spray to combat the inevitable ants and flies were plentiful. There was an initial supply of olive oil, salt and pepper, tea, coffee, sugar etc.

Most importantly to us was the pool: we specifically booked because there is a pool, shared only by the apartment block. However, the water was far too cold for comfort and we understand it is some ten years since the air source heat pump packed up! This will prevent us from re-booking for 2026.
There are 6 apartments plus a penthouse in the block, assuming full occupancy potentially 20-30 guests, yet only 4 sun loungers and no space for more despite the garden having room to construct a larger decking area and equip it with more beds or chairs to accommodate them.
The sunshades are very difficult to put up (and one is broken so almost impossible) so we were very glad of the help of Cuthbert, who looks after the grounds on weekdays.
The terraces/balconies get the sun only briefly, early in the morning, meaning that if one wants to sit somewhere warm, or to sunbathe these 4 loungers are the only option.
The outdoor wooden table and 4 chairs on our terrace were well past their ‘best before’ date and ought to be replaced with updated and much more comfortable ones.
IF the pool had been usable (ie: warm enough to swim without immediately needing a hot shower) AND there had been sufficient comfortable seating outside in the sunshine to enjoy then we would have had no hesitation returning next year.
Overall the apartment is as advertised but it is showing its age and the bathrooms at least should be refurbished as a priority.
The managing team are efficient. A special shout out for Eloize who dealt with anything in her scope quickly and courteously but who is limited by the apparent reluctance of “the body corporate” to spend on the property despite most of the apartments appearing to be let out to holidaymakers thus generating a return on investment for the owners.
During our stay owners of the penthouse property arrived with their dogs. To our consternation it appears they consider it wholly appropriate for them to 'toilet' by 103 entrance.

The self check-in wasn’t what we arranged and was a bit tricky. We ended up not knowing where everything was and what parts of the apartment was working and not working with load shedding.
We stayed in a few different places over two weeks and we were met by all the host showing us around the properties especially with load shedding.

- General lack of cleanliness: e.g. unclean dishes/cutlery/crockery, bed linen, towels, rusted and greasy barbecue. We resorted to rinsing what we’d use at high temperature and not cooking meals in the apartment at all (defeating the point of booking an apartment at all). Although one additional housecleaning was offered via text messaging, we had already rewashed, sanitized and re-cleaned, and lost confidence in the cleaning service and felt generally uncomfortable.
- Some furniture, fixtures, fittings and doors are aged and reflect wear and tear through previous use. Investment in renovation is lacking.

This is not the property’s fault, but during load shedding, the alarm would beep continuously unless you addressed it at panel. It would be nice if this could be pre set as muted. it was inconvenient in the middle of the night load sheds.
apartment is convenient on first floor, but the view is not quite as good as the upper floors. however, the apartment was exactly as pictured.

The location is excellent, off street parking is very helpful and it's a very spacious apartment. The view from the patio is beautiful. The linen and towels were of good quality.
I think the coaches in the lounge needs replacement. I also think that the apartment needs a little bit of attention to detail, for example the one picture in the lounge kept falling off the wall.

The property is a home away from home. Has absolutely everything you need. Beds were really comfortable and even had electric blankets. The living area was homey and had beautiful views. Loved the cosy blankets for sitting outside. Stunning location, walking distance to gorgeous restaurants and cafés. Cannot fault this place. Warm friendly welcome from the host. Highly recommend.
