Could be a great place to stay

This is an impressive looking hotel with old world charm in a great location. It is very quiet (possibly because very few people stay there). A basic breakfast is included with useful signage (see photos). There is a great Thai restaurant close by. We were lucky enough to be there during its limited summer opening times and had the place to ourselves whilst the locals played bingo in the hotel bar.

The room smelt of damp. This was possibly because the tap was positioned in such a way that the water didn’t always go into the washbasin. The walls had been recently painted and there were splatterings of white paint on the black bathroom work surface. The carpet in the bedroom was sticky. The WiFi was weak and kept dropping out.

Waterfront, close to 4square supermarket. Good food in the pub, lovely deck.

We booked a studio room 30sqm and were allocated a tiny maybe 12sqm room. Bar staff were great and relocated us to a much larger room maybe 18-20sqm. They don’t have studios or 30sqm rooms. Looks like a communication between the venue and bookings.com

Small but comfy !

The room was small but comfy. View from the room was very good. Pest control was required as there was very big spider and web on the toilet window. Parking space was ample and there was no problem in check-in and check-out. Continental breakfast was good.

Going to main bar to check in. Staff seemed to take up all parking. Booked a larger suite with Ocean Views but ended up in little room, balcony area covered by foliage. Meh!

Location is great, and the view was nice. Staff very all friendly and helpful.

Continental breakfast was very basic. Our unit was not as clean as we expected it would be. Only 1 blanket on the Queen bed and no spare, no hair dryer, no coat hangers, and the lock did not work on our main sliding door which meant anyone could have walked in and stolen anything. Sofa in the lounge room was filthy as was the ancient wallpaper in the bedroom.

The position was great. Good choice of food. Gardens lovely. Continental Breakfast was good.

Probably my mistake in not checking we booked a smoke free room. The room was so strong with cigarette smell. No blind opposite the single bed for privacy. Cutlery draw had spills in it and ants.

Breakfast was pretty good. Not too heavy. Good supply of cereals, bread, condiments etc. Meals were great from the Bistro Bar. Staff were lovely, always smiling and asking if we were okay.

Dinning room could do with a makeover. We stayed a few years ago and nothing has changed. Could do with a brighter paint job. Carpets smell in the dining room and motel hallway. The rear of the motel is quite junk. Parking could also do with a better arrangement. A disco was held in the bar the night we stayed. All the parks in the front and at the back of the motel were taken. We had to park down the road.

We stayed here for our wedding & booked multiple rooms. They were all great! The location is perfect, beautiful scenery. There’s so much to do locally & the staff are super amazing, made us feel at home. Great hospitality & service with a smile is always a win for me. The family rooms are spacious and cozy. We’ll defs be back again to visit

Good price, great location, just a couple of things to address in the room.

Great location, sea view. Nice and quiet location, back up off the road. Great fish and chip shop next door if you opt not to eat at the hotel.

I did e mail Opononi Hotel to raise these points (rather than put them on a review) but no response to my e mail. Our room was listed as having a double bed, a single bed and a sofa bed. I took the cushions off the sofa and promptly put them back again, lots of crumbs and dust under the cushions, looked like it hadn't been vacuumed under there for months. My sister and I ended up sharing the double bed. The bathroom had runny wet mould on outside of the shower base, that just needed a wipe over with a cloth to sort that but not sure how the cleaners hadn't noticed it. The extractor on the wall above the shower, appeared to be grey but it was in fact dust and probably hasn't been wiped for several months. Overall a good stay, at a good price and in an amazing location but the bed situation, the mouldy shower base and dust on the vent would make me look at other options next time I'm up there.

I choose this place as we were arriving late, so the hotel was just a bit easier. It was just and overnight stop.

I’ve spent many years going back and forth staying here for the Country music festival and, I hail from Omanaia. That said, I’ve always loved staying in Opo. The view is amazing, even when it rains

Breakfast was included in the booking. I had cornflakes, yoghurt and fruit salad. Unfortunately, the cornflakes were stale and the fruit salad was on the turn. Also, a sugar bowl would have saved opening multiple packets of the sugar meant for the hot drinks

It's a warm, cozy and sweet place to stay.

It is located in the heart of the small town of Opononi. The staff is friendly and helpful. When we were checking in, the room hadn't been cleaned yet, so the receptionist upgraded our room to a beautiful sea and harbor view with a balcony.

Good location and historic looking place. We were there during Kings birthday but it didn't seem too busy which was good.

There was a lot of doors slamming during the night, people arguing and no hot food available for breakfast the next day. Also no sky/cable and wifi was patchy at best.

After a long emotional day visiting my little brother for his one year memorial it was nice to be able to get my babies n teens back showered cleaned dinner n rest Attended the opononi restaurant n bar for dinner meals were delicious kids had a ball they even had entertainment raffles n spin the wheel where my family joined the vibe and hospitality from the bar manager staff and locals was amazing it was nice to go have some laughter with the locals n relax n have a bit of fun Thank you all
