Terrible place, drive right on by to some other hotel and restaurant.

Not much to like. Dirty carpet, questionable level of cleaning done in bathroom, but also hard to clean a wooden shower base. Dirty bathroom floor. Bed sheets looked clean, at least I really hope they were, took blanket off as I’m sure it wasn’t. Towels seemed clean and I guess they were new at some point in time. Dinner at the in-house restaurant was terrible. The included continental breakfast was the best part of the stay, and it was okay but no more than. If we hadn’t prepaid through booking.com we would have left and found other accommodation.

Fantastic location, food was excellent, reasonably priced, comfy and clean rooms. Excellent service, the staff we're friendly and helpful.

The rooms were very snug but manageable for a night or 2 max.

The Location of the units was absolutely stunning, the view, the surrounding bush and fauna, beautiful. Very peaceful and tranquil area and the veiw from the units, majestic. Wonderful stay

One of the units, (no.9) the chairs for the dinning table were very low and uncomfortable, there was a very small rubbish bin, and it would of been nice to have a bigger one or even another one. Also, it would of been nice to have a sanitary bin or rubbish bins for both units in the toilets, we had a couple of girls who had their periods and there was no bin to put the waste in, apart from the kitchen bin, which I was profusely against puttting them in the kitchen bin, where the kai goes. Perhaps this could be rectified.

Great location, great staff!

Very mixed group of quests or day visitors, more on the loud brash side, wouldn’t recommend kids staying! Very loud after 11pm and some guests were very and not concerned about other guests!

utter disappointment

I want my money back

They wouldn't even provide a blanket. On a cold, rainy November night, the bed was covered only by a thin sheet (barely worthy of being called a blanket). Though the room had an electric heater, you still needed a proper woollen blanket or duvet. Calling for assistance was futile; no one answered. Leaving messages was a waste of time; you'd never get a reply. Complaining to reception the next day was equally futile. Breakfast was utterly unremarkable – don't get your hopes up. As for the pub dinner, it was even worse – the burgers were pitifully thin, and the portion of fish and chips I ordered was practically a children's meal. Regardless of whether it tasted good or not, within three hours he was vomiting and had diarrhoea! by the way, there was no wifi provided.

White towels and clean white sheets

Continental breakfast … tinned fruit salad, choice of sliced salami and / or sliced cheese, toast Consists of pre frozen white bread, optional cereal choice , weetabix, cornflakes, granola ( stale ), orange juice, tea and coffee. Wi fi hit and miss , dependant on where you are in the room. Carpets need a thorough steam clean as ours were heavily stained. As you entered the Room you had to negotiate past a storage cupboard. Both lights in the room and bathroom were beaming out when switched on .

Tired looking and expensive for what yow get.

The hotel was located close to the water and had great views from some of the rooms. The bathroom was a good size and the shower was spacious and had a plentiful supply of hot water.

The WiFi was hot and miss. It worked only temporarily in my room and was therefore unuseable for any length of time. The rooms were not well sound insulated, I could hear almost every word the people in the adjoining room were saying. The breakfast was poor and you had to pay if you wanted anything other than cereals and bread.

Disappointing - amenities not as advertised.

The beds were comfortable and the towels were nice.

Property was not as advertised - there was no air conditioning, fan or oven as described. Called reception, who said there was no fan we could use. This made our weeklong stay very uncomfortable in the middle of summer. The water pressure in the shower was abysmal. The electrical plugs didn’t work on my side of the bed. The overall unit was tired and the couch was ripped.

Location was good and bar staff were amazing. Dinner at pub was great!

Images on property and rooms need updating as it’s now rather dated and run down for the price. Said air con in rooms but no aircon or fans, was very warm and too hot to sleep. Continental breakfast offered but had to ask for everything to be topped up as things were all gone. Sorry to moan but more to inform for improvements.

Great spot - would stay again!

The view is beautiful. Easy walk over the road to the pier and little beach. The pub next door is a lovely spot for breakfast and coffee - decent music, relaxed vibe and great people working there on an evening. Small walk to the foursquare and little cafe. Would recommend for those travelling through. Rooms were on the small side but good pressure showers and everything you need in the room. Breakfast is decent - a little basic - but there's an option to just purchase breakfast which was reasonably priced and decent.

Seaside Value for money

This hotel has the best location, beside the beautiful Hokianga Harbour. Walk just a few steps to four square shop, café, takeaways and wharf. Nice hotel bar, pool tables, and pokies with friendly staff.

Continental Breakfast all the makings there. it just needs some small editions to make a big impression. Cereal variety - tick, embellishments - fruitsalad and yogurt - tick, toaster and toast bread - tick, juice - half tick (not sure whether juice or cordial) tea and coffee - tick, dining room - tick. Just little finishes to what's there would elevate the experience without costing much, if anything.

Weird noises outside my room (probably just a tree rubbing up against the wall) but the sleep wasn't great. Also the aircon was weak.

Location

Wasn't sure where check-in was and walked towards a white entrance door next to the pub. Told to go into bar area to sign in. Next day no signage for breakfast location, went to the bar to ask but was closed, went to the same white entrance door and asked at counter there, and yes breakfast was served in next room over. Had to return keys to same counter not in the pub where I checked in day before. Simple signage guiding where to check-in/out and breakfast area would have saved the hassle.

Location was very handy to the bar. Staff were great to deal with.. Pub meals were excellent.

Trees out front of our bungalow obstructed our harbour views. Pub closed early due to lack of patronage on saturday night. Unfortunately there was no band or entertainment this weekend but still had a terrific stay.

Could be a great place to stay

This is an impressive looking hotel with old world charm in a great location. It is very quiet (possibly because very few people stay there). A basic breakfast is included with useful signage (see photos). There is a great Thai restaurant close by. We were lucky enough to be there during its limited summer opening times and had the place to ourselves whilst the locals played bingo in the hotel bar.

The room smelt of damp. This was possibly because the tap was positioned in such a way that the water didn’t always go into the washbasin. The walls had been recently painted and there were splatterings of white paint on the black bathroom work surface. The carpet in the bedroom was sticky. The WiFi was weak and kept dropping out.

Waterfront, close to 4square supermarket. Good food in the pub, lovely deck.

We booked a studio room 30sqm and were allocated a tiny maybe 12sqm room. Bar staff were great and relocated us to a much larger room maybe 18-20sqm. They don’t have studios or 30sqm rooms. Looks like a communication between the venue and bookings.com

The room was small but comfy. View from the room was very good. Pest control was required as there was very big spider and web on the toilet window. Parking space was ample and there was no problem in check-in and check-out. Continental breakfast was good.

Going to main bar to check in. Staff seemed to take up all parking. Booked a larger suite with Ocean Views but ended up in little room, balcony area covered by foliage. Meh!

Disappointing

Location is great, and the view was nice. Staff very all friendly and helpful.

Continental breakfast was very basic. Our unit was not as clean as we expected it would be. Only 1 blanket on the Queen bed and no spare, no hair dryer, no coat hangers, and the lock did not work on our main sliding door which meant anyone could have walked in and stolen anything. Sofa in the lounge room was filthy as was the ancient wallpaper in the bedroom.

Value for money. Good continental breakfast. Close to supermarket and info centre and beach. Good place to stay when visiting the big kauri trees.
