Traveling through Holland on a business trip and we had one extra day available in the idea of staying in a castle seemed so magical… Until we arrived. A private event had booked the estate grounds and at check-in we were told we could not leave our room or explore the castle until after 5 PM. The advertisement for this castle list and mentions the beautiful landscape and lush Gardens, and that is a bit of a stretch by anyone’s imagination. If you consider an algae filled stagnant pond, lush landscaping, then you actually would enjoy it.

From the outside the castle seemed absolutely magical until we actually checked into our room and noticed it is all a façade. The cheapest furnishings, cheapest bedding, literally the bed was as hard as the wooden floors. The crown molding was very cheap and not at all adorned in the way you would expect for a castle. I would say this is more of an event space and not someplace to enjoy a stay because it is truly just not comfortable. I was excited to see the large clawfoot tub awaiting us in our suite until I further examined it to see it was a cheap fiberglass replica. The castle is very grand, but upon further inspection, the inside is poorly maintained, and they spared every expense possible on the amenities. The castle is a bit off the beaten path, although it is located in a very wealthy neighborhood, there are no food options except at the hotels restaurant. They advise that you book your reservation in advance online, which I tried to do and there were no available bookings. I then sent a private message directly to the staff of the hotel to see if there was any way they could accommodate us and they did reserve us a table for 6 PM with a message saying that they were fully booked. We enjoyed our dinner for over an hour and we were the only people in the entire Restaurant so I find it hard to believe that they were fully booked considering we were the only people there. other details like paint on the curtains in the room just goes to show the lack of care that went into the renovation. This castle could really be great if they invested a little bit more money to the interior as well as comfortable linens and bedding would make a huge improvement. There are no robes nor slippers, but there were a pair of dirty socks left under the safe in the closet.

The building and location are beautiful, the meal in Sophie's restaurant was exceptional , and the staff could not have been more helpful.

We were a group of cycling friends, and although secure storage was provided, it was not under cover. Luckily, the torrential rain we experienced en route had ceased by our arrival, so keeping bikes outside was no problem.

We had are very warm welcoming upon arrival. The lady at reception was extemely helpful to make us settle and to find our way around the location. The room was very large and comfortable with beautiful views over the garden. It is a very peaceful location in a stunning surrounding. Breakfast was tasty and very generous, good selection of food and drink. Again, service was excellent and very friendly.

The beds were very comfortable. however it was two singles put together instead of one double, which is not ideal for a couple.

It was a beautiful location with it's own lake and well tended garden. The outdoor terrace was perfect for an early evening beer. Reception staff were fabulous - they were kind and came across as being proud of the hotel. We had a free upgrade to a suite so had a separate living/dining space in addition to a huge bedroom and fantstic bathroom - can't remember a hotel with such good water pressure and instant hot water! Thank you

10 minute walk to the bus stop to get to the city centre.

The grounds, the castle itself and the staff were all very welcoming, hospitable and charming. There are some old ghosts that walk the halls at night, but if you keep to your room and the gardens they don't bother you. All in all, it was an amazing experience.

Because it is an old building, noise from next door rooms and events can be a problem. There is no lift, so one has to be able to manage stairs.

The location was perfect. The woods around the hotel was a great way to relax and enjoy nature. The breakfast was absolutely worth the little bit extra cost!

Breakfast was outstanding excellent. Warm bread rolls fresh fruits - yoghurt and delicious granola. Eggs to our liking. Couldn’t be better! The best!

It was very cold in our bedroom. Couldn’t get the heating to start!

We spent our wedding night there and was wonderful!! The jacuzzi, The sauna, The breakfast, The table with rose petals and chocolates and the beautiful card. Thanks a lot!

We liked everything!!

It was a great experience, lovely staff, great restaurant and a very good location. We walked to the museum of Contemporary art and back, and enjoyed the nature. The Hague is only a bus away running on punctual and frequent services. We had a great view from the room and a very nice breakfast. The castle is in a very good state overall.

We didn't get to feel too cozy, there was no lounge/living or study room open or a bar open during the long weekend. We used the restaurant's bar, because other events were running in the night booking other areas of the castle. We sort of expected the existence of a warm lounge with a fireplace working in those really cold and rainy nights.

The bed was very uncomfortable
