Thornbury Castle - A Relais & Chateaux Hotel

The room was very pretty and clean, the castle is gorgeous, gardens lovely, and the history fascinating. Great water pressure in shower. Good selection of drinks at the bar and the breakfast was very nice. We liked the location for visiting the Cotswolds and walking into town to dine at Ronnie’s (highly recommend). We enjoyed our stay overall.

The staff was hit or miss on helpfulness and kindness, mostly miss. Although the room was very clean, the grounds could have been tidier (cigarette butts and trash seen on the ground, a table cloth that lay on the ground for well over an hour that no staff picked up) etc. Lastly, the duvet was not a summer duvet - thick and appropriate for winter. It was very hard to sleep - either covered and too hot or not covered and too cold, something avoidable and disappointing. Although we enjoyed the experience, we didn’t quite feel that the price / quality was on point.

I love it and the Prince Arthur bathroom was by far the best bathroom I have ever had in a hotel. Staff so attentive and friendly. Food excellent.

Everything. It was so peaceful, clean and well maintained The bathrooms are all modern and new and clean. The rooms are absolutely gorgeous with beautiful views and very comfortable.

The food and drinks are rather pricey when you are already paying so much to stay there.

Fabulous to stay in a castle, beautiful building and grounds.

There was a wedding at the castle and in the morning the wedding guests were having breakfast with other guests. In itself that is not an issue but they were chatting constantly about the wedding and were not seated together so they were talking across the room which wasn’t nice for non wedding guests. It would have been better for them to be seated together and even in a separate room so they can chat about the wedding. The breakfast took 1/2 an hour to arrive and she staff said the kitchen was busy. We all had specific times but it appears that the kitchen couldn’t cope. The breakfast was good but spoiled by the long wait and chatting wedding guests. I paid over £600 but the experience was spoiled by the wedding guests not being separated so I feel I didn’t get value for money.
