We book to celebrate a milestone birthday.
We book a superior room on a half board basis. We were allocated the "Queen Margaret" room The room was up a winding stone stairs in a tower by itself. It was a warm large room with a large bathroom ,large shower and single sink. The bed was extremely comfortable. My husband fell asleep within minutes whenever he went to "rest his eyes". The room looked out onto the back gardens. It also had beautiful full bay windows.
The breakfast was hot on our first morning..Some items were warm as the hotel got busier. The staff were professional, friendly and accommodating at all times. Even when a mistake was made on our bill on check out.
The first night we had the tasting menu. One vegetarian one not.
The second night we had the al la carte and on our last evening we had a meal in the library. The food was delicious every time
The cocktails on our first night were well served and presented.
We didn't go for the wine pairing when we had the tasting menu but selected a gorgeous Argentinian Malbec for approx £50+
ALL OUR FAULT...
We should have asked for a bathroom with a bath. Especially after we did a return walk to Tytherington to the Swan pub for lunch.
Our bathroom looked out onto the fountain forecourt and we were concerned we could be seen in the evenings when the light was on especially when using the sink.
A suggestion: On the tasting menu if the diner is a pescatarian a fish option on the "main" section may be appreciated.

Food & Service for evening dinner and breakfast was outstanding. If you can afford upgrading your room then you get an even better experience and can enjoy the surrounding views, and sleep in the UK's largest four poster bed! Staff really made the venue, friendly, always smiling, happy to help with anything and made us feel welcome.
Lunch menu was limited and not to the same standard as other meals, it was a bit greasy. There were limited/no things to do in January (when we went) as the grounds were weather worn, and there were no activities on.

A wonderful experience. The hotel has been beautifully appointed whilst retaining many of the 16C features. The food was excellent as well.

What’s not to like about a Tudor Castle. Upon arrival we were greeted by outstanding customer service which continued through our stay.

Beautiful setting and location, stunning castle and grounds. Good breakfast and all day dinning options. Cosy lounge with fire.
Room was cold and drafty and service was slow for food. Limited by the glass wine selection and TV in room didn’t work.

Beautiful, wonderful property with amazing staff. Perfect balance of feeling the castle all around you, but being able to enjoy it with modern conveniences. Staff are excellent, and the food was exceptional.

It was all excellent
I understand why from a logistics aspect but we both needed to order the tasting menu at the same time so we went a la carte instead

Sold as having a king bed which was actually a large double

An amazing place. Very warm even in bad weather. There is a heating system. After a walk, you can relax and take a bath, for which they even provided foam. The room tells the story of the person after whom it was named. This castle has a very interesting history. Very good breakfasts. We had dinner there once and really enjoyed both the service and the food. The staff is excellent. The only negative thing we can mention is the castle's flooring (the floorboards creak very loudly). But this adds to the atmosphere. And as a guest, I would actually like this flaw to be present in all castles. You can't hear your neighbors, only the creaking of the floorboards when they walk.

Beautiful castle and gounds. Large rooms and large bathrooms, which were also very clean. Decor of rooms is incredible. Functional for modern times but plays homage to old world royal style. Definitely felt like we had stepped back in time. Staff were attentive. Excellent restaurant. We enjoyed our included full hot breakfast. We also indulged in dinner one evening and it was superb. The gardens are varied and well maintained with tall hedges and a lovely rose garden. They offered a quiet respite.
We loved everything! But if stairs are a challenge for you be sure to confirm the access to your room before you arrive. Our room was accessed by a fabulous 23 stone step spiral staircase! This would not be for everyone.

This was a return trip, but did feel at both our tasting dinner & breakfast, whilst the serving staff were great as usual, the service felt a bit rushed 🤷♂️

Unique experience, history, beauty of the place, the quality of the room and facilities, the gardens, the pretty village 5 min walk from the hotel. It is truly amazing!
Not many things to complain about. Maybe the only one - at breakfast they wouldn’t bring hot dishes before continental breakfast is done. They don’t let you know in advance about that. At the table of 4 people I was the only one who had hot dishes and had to wait almost an hour before everyone else finished their continental breakfast.
Also for bar food the portions are way too small, like a side of broccoli they bring 4 little tips of very thin broccoli, or like tomato soup was ultra small and so was fish. I understand when they do it for haute cuisine, but this was not.
