Le Grand Hotel

Our room was perfect, spacious, beautifully decorated, very comfortable bed. Breakfast in the room was an extra perk.

A lovely location in the canals, beautiful atrium for breakfast and lovely hotel overall.

Room 356 had clearly been renovated with an eye for detail rather than a budget checklist. Cole & Son Oblique wallpaper, a genuinely functional Daikin air conditioning unit that held its temperature through a 30-degree afternoon, and a private patio looking onto the canal. The decorating is done in-house by the manager, Lydie Dubois, and it shows — the choices are coherent instead of generic. The location is the building’s real asset: you step out onto Quai de la Résistance with the fishing boats and the canal bridges within sight, and the whole of central Sète is a ten-minute walk. Quai 17, the hotel restaurant, has held a Bib Gourmand since 2017 and earns it; the Menu Confiance at 61 € was the best value meal of a three-week trip. Staff were consistently helpful without hovering.

Breakfast at 17 € per person is the one clear misjudgement. For that price a guest reasonably expects a proper spread, and what arrives is minimal — not a modest continental breakfast but a genuinely small one. Sète has excellent bakeries within two minutes of the front door at a fraction of the cost, which makes the in-house offer difficult to justify. Priced at 10–12 €, or expanded to match the price, it would stop being the sole blemish on an otherwise well-run hotel.

The view from our room was spectacular. The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet.

The staff were indifferent. No one offered any assistance with our luggage. There was no concern when we advised the desk that their restaurant had made us both ill. We were told nothing about our room or the hotel; just handed a key.
