    PLEASE DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL in San Juan !!! Opt for so many brilliant hotels like O:Live Boutique Hotel, Condado Vanderbuilt etc. for similar or lower price, yet super quality, service and dining options. My wife and I stayed in El Convento in late December 2025, and our friends from Spain a week earlier. We all booked El Convento to repeat our fabulous experience we had in San Juan and this hotel 15 years ago. What a disaster it has been on this visit. The hotel has undergone the so-called "renovation of the rooms" that destroyed its previous historical charm - the rooms are terribly designed and decorated, resulting in a cheap appearance, simply done now in a horrible taste (or total LACK OF TASTE). The restaurant is very substandard, the breakfast offered when you buy it with the room is limited to a very few (cheapest) items on the a la cart menu - thus not worth the price. One has to pay extra to select other items on the menu, with no credit from the so-called "breakfast voucher." Most of the staff are rude across the hotel and the restaurant, not showing any interest in or care of the hotel guests. Only two exceptions need to be mentioned (from our stay) - one kind waitress in the restaurant and one attentive lady at the reception (***, if we recall her name correctly). The young Front Office Manager - *** who at the end of our visit apologized for our hugely disappointing stay and experience, offered a 20% refund on our *** per night rate ... yet, at the end, we have never received that refund! Thus the final big disappointment to wrap-up our disastrous stay in El Convento. We are sharing this feedback to warn others: PLEASE DO NOT BOOK EL CONVENTO HOTEL in San Juan!!!

    Overall our stay was fine until I got up in the middle of the night to go to the rr and coming back to bed stepped on the rug which had glass imbedded in it and badly cut my foot. Bled like crazy because it was very deep. Told the staff and they “just felt terrible that this happened” and also- oh, you booked third party. Our hands are tied to do literally anything at all to compensate for this issue. So, thoughts and prayers and don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
