Captains Retreat Apartments and Cottages

Beautiful old original brick building and so spacious. Very friendly and helpful host. Has everything you need supplied and so handy to shops and walks.

Unfortunately with some old buildings there is no sound barrier for the road noise, which I totally forgot to take in to consideration and was unable to get much sleep and was woken early by the street cleaners. Other than that it was a fabulous place.

The breakfast supplied was perfect, The milk and condiments lasted all through my five day stay. The apartment has everything you need for an extended stay. A real home away from home. Even the toilet supplied was quality paper!!! Dinner at The Strand was exceptional, with The Strand offering and honoring the Captains Retreat discount without my asking for it. The Strand, for a dining experience is highly recommended.

If I had to be critical of anything, even though I don't want to, the shower was excellent with almost instant hot water, but it did not last very long running out quite soon after beginning the shower. It was not a problem for one guest, but if multiple guests were at the apartment I believe someone would get a cold shower. Maybe I just need to learn to take shorter showers ;-)

The small room was cluttered with furniture that was a tripping hazard making access around the bed difficult. The timber floor in the bathroom had an unpleasant odour. Access to the lamp switches beside the bed was impractical - requiring sitting up to turn on and off
