Klajumi Countryside Cottages & Nature retreat

All in all, we enjoyed our stay very much. This horse ranch is beautifully situated in south eastern Latvia. We had a wooden house at the very end of the property with only horses running around behind the fence. Picture perfect. The whole property is very well maintained and the breakfast was fine. A friendly, English-speaking young man received us and showed us our place. A clear recommendation, especially if you are traveling without a dog (see my comment below).

The place is listed as dog friendly, but the rules are very strict (no dogs on beds and couches, although the furniture is rather old and there are blankets on the couch anyway), no dogs in the common buildings etc. During breakfast our dog ran away briefly and went into the breakfast room for a second. We apologized but they immediately threatened us with the 50 € fee for not keeping dogs on a leash (it turned out OK, and we said a very friendly goodbye, so no big deal). But the main thing is: if that's their policy, then we respect this, of course. But in that case the regular 25 € (!) for one dog/per night is too high!! We usually pay between 5 € and 15 or maybe 20 € for our dog, even in 4 star hotels. The house smelt very strongly of smoke, all our clothing did, too, the next day 🙂 no big problem, just as an information that it's very rustic. As mentioned above, couches and beds are a little older and well used, but still OK.

Pleasant & relaxing countryside retreat, nice area to walk around, horseriding available. The place is pet-friendly, and there is a breakfast available if needed. Hosts were very open and helpful. We used it as a stop-over during a road trip, and would be happy to come back.

Viena no skaistākajām atpūtas vietām Latvijā, novērtētu ar 11 ballēm, ja varētu! Mūsu ģimenei bija ziemīgas, baltas un pasakainas Jaungada brīvdienas. Izbaudījām visu, ko sirds kāro - gan pirtiņu (gājām 2-us vakarus), pērāmies ar saimnieku sarūpētām pirts slotiņām, gan braukšanu kamanās pa Balto pasaku mežu, gan gardās brokastis un pusdienas, gan skaistos Latgales māla traukus un, protams, zirgus! Visas mūsu kompānijas meitenes iemīlējas Dundurā:) Tik skaisti zirgi! Domāju, ka nav nekādas vajadzības braukt tik talu un pa bargu naudu uz Lapzemi (tur ir tikai ziemeļbrieži), ja pie mums Latvijā ir TIK neticami skaisti un gudri zirgi. Mēs katru dienu gājām pie zirgiem un priecājāmies, ka drīkstam ar tiem draudzēties un runāties. Bija arī trusīši, sunīši un kaķīts, bet tie zirgi - mī un žē: Īsāk sakot, mums bija vienkārši perfekta atpūta ar karalisku ēdināšanu. Katru rītu siltas un gardas brokastis, katru dienu citas, plus vēl katru dienu cita putra! Izbaudījām arī Kulināro mantojumu - tas ir jāēd un jāizgaršo. Milzīgs paldies saimniekiem, ka mums atļāva arī vārīt zupu uz ugunskura (tā mums tāda tradīcija) un rūpējās, lai varam izbaudīt visus ziemas priekus pa baltiem ceļiem un neceļiem.

Tikai tas, ka bija jābrauc prom.
