Regular holiday maker in French hotels.

Reception personnel were brilliant.

Dining experience was hideous. Waiter said we didn't have a reservation and had the embarrasment of taking him to reception to find out we did. The dining room was drab and the service very poor as the waiter was totally pre-occupied with serving a large touring group in the adjacent proper dining room. It was an unpleasant and costly mistake. As we were on holiday in France it was a regretable experience.

A good hotel which lacked atmosphere

This is a pleasant hotel on the outskirts of Auray set in pretty grounds with ample free parking. It is possible to walk into town within 10 to 15 minutes. The staff were welcoming and very friendly/helpful. The room was small but comfortable with a courtesy tray (no English tea or milk though) and a brightly lit bathroom with a good shower. There is also a lift and a small bar and an outside seating area. A sauna can be booked but we did not use it. The restaurant is open each night and the food was excellent. Breakfast is also served in the restaurant where there is ample choice of breads, pastries, cheeses, cold meats etc and a hot dish of eggs/bacon/sausage.

We were personally disappointed at the location of the hotel as it was remote from the town and situated in a residential area. Although the room was comfortable, it was decorated in dark browns which made it feel very gloomy and depressing, particularly as the room we were assigned did not catch the sunshine. The hotel bar is cosy but lacked atmosphere as, sadly, we were the only two who used it for pre-dinner drinks. Also, although the restaurant food could not be faulted, neither the daily menu nor the a la carte menu changed for the four days we were there. The morning staff were slow to replenish breakfast dishes and, for some reason, the "hot" dish for the eggs and bacon was never plugged in so the food was always cold or tepid.

Nice & comfy Best Western close to small town/port and allowing excusrions in the area.

Auray was a great discovery... Where we loved to old city centre and port (though small). From here we did several excursions in the region. The hotel was what we expect from a Best Western: simply good / clean and comfy.

As Bretagne is getting warmer... Adding aircos to the rooms will probably become necessary. For now it was ok to keep curtains closed during day.. and have windows open for an hour before going to sleep.

Excellent accueil, grand lit confortable, calme, centre ville à 15 minutes à pied, plein de petits plus (thé, café, eau bouilloire dans la chambre, petit nécessaire (rasoir, brosse à dent) disponible à l’accueil pour les étourdis, madeleine si petit creux, 30 minutes d’accès au Hammond/spa) compris dans le prix, petit déjeuner buffet varié et copieux dans un salle avec un poêle à bois, etc.

HOTEL IDEAL A AURAY

Hôtel idéalement situé dans un cadre champêtre, au calme et à la fois proche du port de St Goustan à environ 15-20 minutes à pied. Personnel très sympathique, la salle de bain est de bonne taille avec douche italienne et la literie est très confortable. Parking gratuit.
