Used booking.com to pre-notify the hotel of expected time of arrival, this was at a time the road was closed to the hotel and could not access the hotel car park due to pre planned event. Felt a message or a link to notify me of the expected event and that it would be difficult to reach the hotel so could have rearranged plans

Got in easily, enjoyed a great stay.

Great value for money

I’ve stayed here a couple of times, due to the location. Just a short walk from the train station and amongst the high street shops and bars. Really liked my spacious, clean room and the view of big Christmas tree outside. Nice quick hassle free check-in and check-out. Tea/coffee in room with a couple of biscuits, clean bathroom. No noise so I had a good night’s sleep.

The main light didn’t seem to work in the room, but no big deal.

The location was good, close to the city centre. The staff were very friendly

The heating wasnt working and it was a very cold day, there was a small electric in the room though. The room looked very old and as if it hasn't been updated for a long time and the automatic front door wasn't working in the morning so we had to force it open.

It was OK for a one night stay, not sure about any longer though.

The location was great, ideal for the Grand Theatre where we were going to watch a show, also very close to the shops and restaurants. It was comfortable for the night with clean towels and tea/coffee making facilities, also plenty of parking as we got there early enough for a space.

Only one lift working, which had a weight restriction and would only let two people use it, if you have heavy luggage you would be unable to travel up together and would have to go one at a time. The room we had was OK although carpets were poor and had been glued down in places where it had become very thin and broken. The TV didn’t work, we didn’t get back to the hotel until late when we found this out and didn’t bother to report it, explained to reception in the morning and they said we should have called down.

This prime location property needs a major investment but I doubt it’s going to happen any time soon, based on my years

The only positive points were (A) The staff were lovely (B) The location was good

The room was extremely cold because the heating system did not work and the windows were extremely draughty. One window nearest the bed had no handle on it so could not be closed and the other one beside it was badly warped and was the same in effect. The bathroom windows were the same. The curtains were actually blowing around in the room overnight. The carpet in the room was very ragged and saggy and lifting off the floor in places. You could actually trip on some of the saggy areas. The shower was lukewarm at best and honestly little more than a dribble. I did complain about the windows and the heating the next morning and they did send up an electric heater to the room. While there are two lifts side by side, only one is working and I know this is the case for at least the last 5 years. It seems that no investment whatsoever has been put into this property in many many years. Very disappointing and my worst experience in 14 years.

Hotel lift saga

The location of hotel .

I have used this hotel .many times. Each time I have been there the only has one lift in use causing . This time I stayed was the worst Waiting for the lift from 6th floor . For 10 to 15 min every time I left the hotel . Unacceptable. The cleaners also use the lift .. it was a night mare .. saying the other lift was out of order doesn't wash any more . I won't be using the hotel any more sadly .

Carpet in the bedroom and many other places in hotel was lifting making it easy to trip over those humps!! Furniture in bedroom was tatty, peeling away on the leather chairs, stained carpet too !! Dust behind TV on the unit!! No ironing facilities in room so made do !! No hairdryer so it's a good job i took my own!! Drinks unit not stocked up on arrival but was stocked up on the 2nd day !! Towels had holes and pulls in them and did not feel clean at all - thank god we had our own !! Bath was nice and big though !! Bathroom toilet didn't flush & neither did our friends toilet in their room on the same floor !! Only 1 lift working and that only worked now and again so had to hike our cases, clothing and heavy drinks bag up and down to 4th floor !! No spa as it was closed!! Disappointing as we only booked this hotel for the spa ! Sat down for relaxing coffee Saturday late morning in reception to then have the fire alarms going on and off for 20 mins!! Workmen drilling walls outside 7.40am Saturday morning !! Breakfast was ok but coffee machine not working so had weak coffee that tasted like old, stagnant water!!

Supposed to be allocated a family room, this was more like a store room, it had one small high level window that was filthy dirty looking out over an area of filth and air conditioning units. The bathroom windows were even worse. There was no bath plug, the large bed was actually 2 single beds fastened together which meant rolling into the middle downhill during the night. Also see through toilet paper!

The property had scaffolding outside - which I was not made aware of until I arrived at the property. And was unable to change the booking due to it being less than 24 hours and outside of the cancellation fee. The bathroom was unclean and I had to clean an already dirty toilet bowl myself. I could not be bothered to alert the staff at 12am when I arrived into my room.

We booked this property through the booking.com app only to find out that they where in the middle of major refurbishment once we got to the hotel, it didn’t say anything about it on the booking.com app we checked in at 16:30 at about 18:30 someone knocked on the door and said they needed to do work on the window, which at the very least should of been done before we checked in it was very intrusive, but we didn’t have a choice, they at 9am on a Sunday morning they began work on the property which was impossible to sleep through it was terrible so we checked out early when we told the staff at reception what had happened and told them we wouldn’t be staying here again as you go to a hotel to relax they simply said “what do you want us to do about it now” terrible hotel terrible staff

A disappointing experience.

The location in the town centre.

The property looks tired, we booked a suite, the bedroom and bathroom were okay but the lounge consisted of a small table and one armchair and looked sparse. It needed a second chair or better still a two seater settee. All the window seals were defective which affected the view. Our main complaint is that of the 2 lifts only one was in operation and was restricted to a maximum of 3 people which resulted in long waiting times.

Terrible hotel. Poorly maintained, scruffy, dirty. Two tiny lifts, only one working. Probably the worst hotel I've stayed at in the UK - only rivalled by some in Eastern Europe, China.
