The Dearly Koh Tao Hostel-PADI 5 Star Dive Resort

I went last minute during peak high season new year and had very limited choices on accommodation? Luckily found a quick solution. They have lots of group activities like free sunset spot shuttle, movie nights, activities etc. Good place to mingle and make new friends very easily. Staffs and people were friendly. Wish the bed had a curtain or a better divider for privacy though. But overall not bad if you’re a young traveler on a budget and wants to make friends.

The Dearly itself is a very nice hostel, good value for your money and very nice workers. HOWEVER, we organized a 6:30 am shuttle for our 7 am ferry through the hostel. The hostel provides this service for 100 baht per person. We needed to make this ferry as we were catching a flight right after the ferry, we were assured by the staff that we would be fine with the shuttle. We came downstairs at around 6:20 and began waiting for the shuttle. The shuttle had not arrived by 6:35 and we began to grow worried. INSANELY, there was absolutely no hostel staff downstairs at this time, and we had not been provided a shuttle number so there was absolutely nothing we could do. Time continued to pass and we began getting frantic and by 6:50 we were beginning to accept that we were going to miss this ferry and our subsequent flight. By some miracle a man pulled into the hostel on a bike (presumably who had some working relationship with the hostel but honestly I'm unsure). We tried to explain the situation to him and though he didn't seem to fully get it due to the language barrier, he rushed us to the port in his truck and we made the ferry. Now it all turned out fine but this is simply unacceptable, if you organise a service AND CHARGE FOR IT it must work properly especially when the stakes are this high. If this kind man had not saved the day we would have been out probably close to 500 USD. And to have no staff downstairs before 7am is absolutely wild if you're going to be organizing services like this. Thats why, despite the hostel itself being very nice I would not recommend it to others.

Place is good but too overrated for the price and hype. There are many other good places for same price or lesser. Would be excellent value for money if they charge 75% of what they do now. Also, the beds are horrible, no blackout curtains, and they are designed in a way that the ones on top bunker are done.
