Cosy maisonnette Lascaux

La situation en plein cœur de la ville de Montignac, dans une ruelle typique de la région. Le côté moyenâgeux du logement sur quatre niveaux avec murs en pierres et poutres apparentes. Le fait que tout est fourni: du linge de lit aux serviettes de toilette (comme à l’hôtel) et que la propriétaire qui vit dans le logement une partie de l'année laisse son matériel à disposition. Même le jardinet à côté du logement est complet avec table et chaises ainsi que barbecue. Et pour les fans de jardinage, de quoi s'occuper.

Le seul bémol ne concerne pas le logement mais le fait que dans la région tout est payant, hormis la visite des villes et villages (St Amand de Coly et St Léon sur Vézère) de la Dordogne et le point de vue sur la Vézère du haut de la Côte de Jord.

The property is old but very cosy. It is located really near the center of Montignac. Even though the streets are narrow and if it's difficult to circulate and park in front, it appears easy to find free parking spots at a short walking distance (3 min). The kitchen is well equipped and every appliance we used worked just fine.

Not really a major issue for most, but the house is narrow and it is split across 4 levels, of which at least 2 must be used very often (rooms and bathroom are on one floor, kitchen and living room on another). This may be an issue for people with reduced mobility.

The extremely old house has everything a family can wish for, 2 bedrooms, a very nice open kitchen and not to be missed a beautiful "Jardin" above the rooftops for your evening meal as you let the day wind down. The open kitchen has everything you can think of, not only regarding dishes, cutlery and utensils, but also just about any spices you can imagine and also a very good oven and dishwasher. The big wooden round table in the living area would certainly seat 6 but for 4 gave us so much space that when the weather was not good enough to dine in the lovely garden, it was perfect. The view across the rooftops (just outside the living room door) is breathtaking. A great place to make your home for a week or three :-) If you are going canoeing (which in general you must) then the 12km from Montignac is a great start, we had a lot of water which was moving faster than usual so we hardly needed to paddle on our way down river to St Leon (where you MUST take lunch at the wonderful cafe just before the bridge 500m before the end of your trip). Later in the week we took the 18km from St Leon to Les Eyzies which is very spectacular and not to be missed.

The water pressure in the shower could be a bit faster, however anyone originating from Britain will probably not even notice ;-) The separate toilet is small and a little dark, however, again remembering my UK upbringing this can be seen more as an advantage for getting a family moving in the mornings as nobody spends too much time in there.
