Comfortable, crisp soft sheets, very long tub.
Vanity table blocked ‘sea view’.
7.0 / 10.0
It was warm cosy and welcoming
Lovely hot water in the room and good breakfast
Lovely communal areas and fascinating paintings/history
The room (we requested a sea view) was tiny for two people and luggage and there were some basics missing - for example no towel rail, no bath mat, only one sink plug
headboards stained and tatty, decor generally scruffy in room
However the communal areas and corridors were all beautifully decorated and all radiators on all 3 floors were on!!(I think we were the only guests)
So all good except the room itself!

The room was beyond expectations, beautiful elegant room, warm throughout stay, very comfortable beds. Towels and toiletries provided. There was also a coffee/tea station with ample amount of coffee and tea provided, and even a small refridgerator. It was so comfortable I would have liked to have stayed an extra day, just to relax and read a book. The hotel is close to the centre of town, but also close to the theatre (reason for our stay). There are pubs and restaurants in the same street so everything available closeby for an evening out experience. Full breakfast provided/included. We live in a local village but staying in the hotel is not only a treat, it takes the hassle out of trying to get home at night now that the bus service is not so reliable back to the village during the evening.
The tea provided with the breakfast was too strong to drink, an extra jug of hot water would have been useful to dilute it. At the same time I could have asked for extra hot water, but did not.

This hotel is very convenient, an old historic property. It has a very attractive bar which was busy when we arrived.
We had a nice breakfast the first day in the Theatre Bar, a nice historic room.
Our room was comfortable, certainly no stinting on the heating as we had to turn off the radiator and open the windows. The mattress needs updating, as did the old pillows, but perfectly ok. The shower was a problem as it was erratic with the hot water, which would stop and very cold water coming out. The sink had reliable hot water.
The second day, the Sunday, nobody showed up to open the breakfast room - we called the hotel, we could hear the phone ringing in the bar and the reception but nobody answered. By the time we checked out, nobody had opened up so we left the key at reception.

Good location for central Penzance. Good heating.
The hotel felt very dated, rain leaking by the bar, tired decor, everything creaked everytime you moved, pipes made noises when water was run, so we couldn't relax and you could hear everybody talking as they walked past.
Breakfast was included, you preordered via a breakfast slip the night before but in the morning there was no staff in the breakfast room and it took 5 mins of calling to find someone. We had to ask for coffee, salt, sauces, felt disorganised & not worth £125 a night.

Lovely place, staff were really good, very clean and surprisingly big with a lot of history behind the walls! Certainly will be staying there again!

It was clean and tidy and warm and cosy
Considering we were the only occupants the breakfast was over cooked and dry poaching eggs over done and toast undercooked

We attended a function there which was excellent.
The bedrooms were a bit dated.

Location
The Dated Room, the mattress was shot to pieces, most springs gone on 1 side so bed was on a slope, plywood under it!!!

Nothing negative to mention.

A beautiful historic building with a lot of original features, staff were great very polite and friendly. A very good breakfast and live music in the bar in the evening was good. Our room wasn't huge but the bed was comfortable. It is right in the town centre wich suited our needs and parking on site was a bonus.
It could do with a lick of paint and general updating.

Nice staff. Relaxed and genuine Cornish. Good atmosphere in the breakfast room and the bar, not least wt. free live music Saturday. The Nelson lounge is adoring and steeped in history (Although, as a Dane I am not unconditionally happy for Lord Nelson ;)
The carpets in the corridors are battered and rather dirty. Anyway, why having carpets in the common areas of a hotel? The left side of the queen bed in room 12 is falling apart. Worked OK to sleep on the right side and the room has a stunning view of the sea.

Friendly staff in the bar and a lovely breakfast
Rooms where not very clean, there was bags of rubbish left on the landing for the 3 days that we stayed at the hotel and that rubbish stated to smell.

Location and history. Good breakfast b
We did not know at the time of booking that there would be live music below our rooms until 11.15pm

The building is impressive and historical. The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was great. There was a great band playing in the bar in the evening. Beds were comfy
It was incredibly noisy outside 😐 it was a weekday night and I'm not sure what it's usually like there, and I know there's not much the hotel can do about it. But it was very rowdy outside with people shouting and some kicking of cars etc
7.0 / 10.0
Breakfast was very nice. Car parking was useful. I liked the historical features of the building.
The shower was good, but it needed a shelf for shampoo etc. Bedside lamp didn't work.

Ordering breakfast the night before. Rooms were clean but shower grouting could do with a clean.

The grand reception rooms where the wedding was hell were excellent
Rooms were tatty. Bathroom grouting was dirty. Curtains difficult to open.

Cosy room, comfy beds, felt like I was back in time authentic seaside feel. Loved the old quirks of the hotel :)
The paintings by the bed in room gave me the creeps. Won’t be suitable for all..

Perfect location, charming place with history and character. Helpful and friendly staff.
The bed was very uncomfortable. The room was hot (no air con or blackout blinds against the sun). The shower was quite weak.

We loved the location and the sea view from the room window
Kyla from the breakfast room was wonderful polite and very pleasant
Emily in reception was dismissive stroppy, and arrogant on our arrival and every time we met her. I cannot believe how rudely, without any reasons, she behaved towards us.
When we got into the room I saw crumbles, clothes tags, 1 plump pip and several cherry pips on the floor. I couldn't believe my eyes. I called the domestic who truly apologized and felt terribly embarrassed. I told her not to worry as she was sweet and apologetic.
We could not take a single shower as the temperature regulator didn't work, the water was freezing cold or scalding!
The bed and the floors were very creaky.

Room was spotless. Staff were lovely. Historic building to explore, located in the heart of Penzance.
The room was extremely basic. Not even a shelf to put toiletries on, in the bathroom. Lots of stairs in this accomodation, not for those with mobility issues.

Good location. Clean and tidy.
Very noisy from the street and the seagulls in the morning. The room was quite hot so we needed the window open.

Staff both in the bar/ breakfast room and housekeeping very friendly and helpful. Actual hotel decor very quirky retro and individual which I liked better then the blandness of hotel chains. Would stay there again.
Would have been good if the bedroom windows could open to let in fresh air. Hooks on bathroom doors would be useful.

Beds comfortable but not nice pillows to flat the staff we’re brilliant very friendly nothing to much trouble and nice to be able to sit outside.
Breakfast was warm hard eggs all overcooked Broken toaster only 2sides worked and took along time .Only other thing was stairs shame there wasn’t a lift

It wasn't fair on the staff really, trying to look after scuba divers - we had a very early ferry and the festival was in full swing so it wasn't the quietest overnight (no fault of the hotel!). I was offered a bacon roll and coffee at 06.30 if I couldn't get to breakfast which was really kind. I had to leave at 05.00 so couldn't take them up on it but it was really good to be asked. Room was nice and in keeping with the nature of the hotel.

Location was convenient for the isle of Scilly ferry
Arrangements for breakfast are completely disjointed among the staff. We were told by evening staff that breakfast was 8am so we had to get a takeaway breakfast. Even that getting our rolls at 8am might be difficult because the chef didn’t start until 0800. ‘But we’ll call him and ask’.
We came down to get our takeaway breakfast and found people enjoying a sit down breakfast and the morning staff said ‘oh yes it says 8am but if you come earlier we’ll serve you’.
We were happy with our room but there is a shelf right at head height above the tea area which we constantly banged our heads on.

The location and the history.
Staff friendly.
The hotel had character and great potential
Breakfast lack of choice no fruit. Disorganised staff, had to ask for tea or coffee, teaspoons and milk.
Room on 3rd floor, no air con or fan and very hot, room in need of internal decoration. Stayed for 3 days room needed hoovering and replacement of shower gels.
Hot water intermittent from the sink in the bathroom.

Comfortable , .light and airy room.
Breakfast was fine, not much choice but definitely enough
Hospitality staff friendly. I think the boss is busy doing it up and the wonderful building has great potential.
Broken light fittings, hair on the bedroom floor, toilet that didn't flush contents away, dirty bathroom mirror.
We had been promised a sea view, but the office staff forgot to put us on the list of guests arriving that day, so we were given a room that looked half prepared.
Nevertheless, our stay was comfortable and although like Faulty Towers I would stay there again.

The location of the hotel is great choice. You can actually just walk around the town and shop all day and return to your hotel after shopping just by walking up the path and centre has loads of variety. The room is also cosy and very homey like it looks like a normal bedroom house a nice touch.
The hotel does do breakfast and has a nice bar for drinks. But sadly they do not do dinner. So if your looking for a hotel that can do dinner service, you might as well go look for a restaurant.

All good, lovely big soft towels, good location, nice room.
8.0 / 10.0
The hotel is ideally located for shops, restaurants and pubs.
Our room was not particularly spacious, tho it was clean and comfortable.
We had an issue closing a large window at night, but once reported, was resolved very quickly.
The breakfast was very good with the usual selection of cereals and yogurts prior to enjoying a cooked breakfast.
The staff make a real effort to ensure their guests enjoy the experience.
A delightful young lady named Angel looked after us at breakfast most mornings and then she could be found helping out in the house keeping department.
On some occasions, her skills extended to operating the hotel bar.
Angel clearly enjoys her role and is seen to be very supportive to the needs of the guests.
Nothing major here to report!!
