Dreaming of the sun, surf, and sand on a famous Nova Scotia surfing beach where your home away from home is only a short distance up the road? Welcome to “Saltwater Hideaway,” a marvelous glass-front six bedroom, three full bath, architecturally designed home that offers a panoramic view of Cole Harbour inlet. This ocean harbour home is located on a very private 4 acre lot and is only a short drive from your choice of beaches, including Lawrencetown, Conrad’s, Clam Harbour, Rainbow Haven, and Martinique Beaches. If city life is on your agenda, you are 15 minutes from Nova Scotia’s two largest cities. Business or pleasure, this home is your dream getaway.
Begin your day sipping a favorite beverage while sitting on the spacious safety glass paneled deck or relaxing at the large 8-chaired dining table while you gaze through the wall of south-facing windows at the panoramic water view. The smell of salt air accompanies the sight of bald eagles, osprey, blue herons, ducks, sea otters, and other wildlife. The unfettered view of the stars at night accompanied only by the sound of sea birds will complete your day in this quiet retreat.
As you enter the home, your eye is drawn across the gleaming birch flooring to the stunning water view beyond. The open concept main floor is perfect for entertaining, with a welcoming sunken living room, connected dining area, and spacious kitchen with center island and loads of counter space and cupboards. The bright kitchen has easy access to the deck and barbecue area via the mud room. A new reverse osmosis water treatment system provides you with fresh, filtered water and ice. Two large bedrooms (one with bunk beds and a crib), a full bath, and a laundry room complete the main floor.
Walk up the winding stairs and you are met with a spacious, romantic loft style master suite boasting a terrace overlooking the water. Walk through a large open closet to the connected ensuite, which features a 6 foot long, extra deep soaking tub, a double vanity, and a huge glass shower.
A fun space for adults and children alike, the spacious finished basement sports carpet throughout. A children's bedroom equipped with twin bunk beds is located on this level, and the expansive connecting home theatre includes a large TV, theatre screen, and surround sound system, allowing you to enjoy the experience of a cinema in the comfort of home. Around the corner are two additional bedrooms (one with an ocean view), a bathroom with shower, and loads of closet space.
Outdoors, an outdoor kitchen equipped with a sink, bbq grill, and pizza oven awaits your culinary talents. This space (shared with the on-property cottage) boasts a bespoke fire pit with seating for up to 28 people. Please be mindful of the privacy and comfort of cottage guests when using this space. Also please consult the current regulations regarding fires; on account of the widespread forest fires, provincial fire bans are declared throughout the year.
Guests are welcome to request use of the outdoor swim spa and hot tub during their stay. Due to the excessive amount of time required to service these amenities combined with the high draw on electricity required to run the swim spa, they are offered at a cost of $75/per night for the entirety of your stay. If the swim spa gets high use during your stay, it will need treatment. If you are not willing to treat the water yourself (with host guidance), service can be arranged in advance at a cost of $80.

We were a family of 12 and the property was fantastic. The common areas let the conversation flow and board games to be played. Visiting Halifax was great and we were close enough to come back and go out again. Carla was a great host. Very responsive and helpful

As an event hosting space 4/5
The home is absolutely gorgeous with a beautiful yard backing onto the water. Huge patio and the inside is a great size too. Two easily accessible bathrooms for guests and a humongous kitchen and refrigerator for food storage. Actual cooking tools were a little lacking but storage space was no problem at all. Great fire pit too! The only problems that occurred were that the patio lights and outdoor plugs just didn't work. Carla sent out someone to take a look but were unable to fix it so we had to jury rig a solution of a long extension cord leading outside. The other issue we ran into was the sheer amount of both mosquitos and geese. We had to go through the whole lawn and spray mosquito oil and pick up goose poop for a couple hours before our event. For the amount that is charged extra for event hosting the lawn should have been sprayed and cleaned before hand, especially since outdoor events are the norm in current times. There was also construction going on, which was fine no problem with that, but there was a very sharp drop off that we had to buy solar lights for to make sure it was safe for cars and taxis, but this was a minor thing.

Honestly if not for this last point I'd have let this whole review slide. We did have a fun time. But considering that people abandoned beds to sleep on couches during out whole stay, we had to do a bunch of cleaning, had to spray for mosquitos ourselves and were told the day before and harassed the day of our event for additional money because of the specific kind of event we were having this is a 2/5. Carla did state that weddings and events had additional fees associated with them, and we were happy to pay additional event fees. When she learned that our specific event was a wedding she let us know that we owed her an additional 2.3K on top of what we'd already agreed to pay and made out seem like she would have taken further action if we didn't agree to. We were not told that weddings cost more than other events, and had we known we likely would have booked somewhere else. The number of people attending didn't change, nor did anything else other than her knowing we were having a small wedding ceremony. It added a lot of stress onto what was already a stressful day and made an already expensive stay obscenely overpriced. At the end of the day, this house is absolutely Instagram worthy and stunning, just don't look too closely to anything
