Excellent sea-front hotel and dining in central location walkable to all local sights and nearby Onchan. This seems to be the number one hotel in Douglas. Breakfast and bar restaurant both served excellent food quality and quantity. Once we at there, we didn't want to try anywhere else.
No pool, sauna, or spa. Nor did we see a gym. You cannot really swim at the beach. The check-in process was a bit remiss in that we were not told how to access wifi and breakfast (which we had already paid for). Of course we were able to figure these things out for ourselves later on, but I think reception should have spelled out these details on arrival when guests are already filling in check-in forms, providing ID, obtaining keys. If reception could be a little more helpful on the details that arriving first-time customers need to know, I suggest that will create a better first impression.

Comfortable, friendly and really well located. Exceptional value for money.
Nothing! It was a great stay!

The staff were amazing. The food was delicious and very well priced . My room was cleaned every day and was spotless.
Nothing at all ... only maybe bring sea view rooms down to a cheaper price

Good location and a reasonable price. It was 'out of season' though so don't know how much it would have been otherwise.
Friendly staff. Good to see local hand-pulled ale in a hotel bar, an all too rare occurrence these days.
A very comfortable and well-run hotel.
The fire-alarm went off at one point and people began evacuating their rooms. It was a false alarm. This was a minor irritation and didn't mar my stay. The staff on duty apologised politely and there was no harm done.
I noticed that the floor sloped slightly leaving a gap beneath the door. This was a bit disconcerting but didn't lead to a draught or cause a problem with noise. I could hear televisions and voices from other rooms but this did not go on too late and again did not mar my stay.

Room was very, very cold - Had to get a fan heater and run it all night :-( Otherwise, all ok

Room was too hot. Heating turned off and windows open but couldn’t get the temperature down.

Breakfast and evening meals excellently prepared.
Staff very friendly.
Room comfortable, compact but with all essentials including a bath.
Some noisy late night guests returning to rooms one night (of two).
Bed good, would have preferred a larger duvet.
Location convenient.
Happy memories of a wedding reception at hotel some 40 years ago.
Larger duvet.

We loved the Empress. She was beautiful and well loved / cared for. She is a relic and deserves the continued care. We enjoyed a beautiful 2 winter nights in the penthouse. Warm, dry, well maintained. All the things needed for a stay. Great views. Comfortable accommodation.
A bit of old infrastructure as expected in an old building... clunking heaters.

Great location with clean, spacious rooms.
Unfortunately our bins had not been emptied and the hairdryers in the bathroom were very old and the plastic was falling off it was so old which was a little concerning

Breakfast a little sparse. Asked for more pastries and 4 were brought out

The hotel is good in parts. The bed was comfortable. The Brasserie restaurant and their staff were excellent and we would eat there again even if staying elsewhere. The breakfast was varied with a wide choice even if the quality was obviously pitched at the tour groups who are the lifeblood of such large hotels. The breakfast staff were helpful and friendly, whilst the reception staff were at the end of a long and trying season; efficient but unsmiling. A hotel on its way up with great potential.
We were in a deluxe room with sea view. But as the very heavy sofa was placed across the window with a view inwards of the bed and wall, any enjoyment of the sea view would have entailed squeezing in behind the sofa and perching against the back of it. In the event, this hardly mattered as we were out and about every day. We noted the absence of the promised tea and coffee maker but quite happy to just use the kettle. Some of the furniture a bit the worse for wear.

The location & the bar & restaurant area are lovely & modern
The room was really big & although very clean it needs a modern update.
Also apart from one lovely girl at breakfast the other staff were very slow & unresponsive to our requests.

Good buffet breakfast options readily available plus additional choices on request. Room was a good size for single guest with large bed and bathroom. Bar/lounge area very comfortable with ample seating room for visitors to join us for refreshments.
Noisy water pipes when room above had a bath running and chatter noise from adjacent room occupants.

Breakfast was very good. Nice bar, drinks reasonably priced for a hotel.
Bed small and uncomfortable. big gap under the door into the corridor. Really dangerous steps leading to the street. The slowest smallest lift i have ever used. Outside the breakfast room absolutely filthy. Hotel manager didn't like constructive message and was rude.

We ate in one of the restaurants, The Brasserie, a couple of times and the food was amazing. The piano playing in the background was a nice touch. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful, particularly a lady called Darinka who was always warm and welcoming.
Our room was pretty disappointing - whilst sea view facing, there was no aircon nor wardrobe in which to hang clothes. There was a small cubby hole with some hangers which also housed a dusty looking fan, which was completely inadequate. The overriding issue was the fact our room was beneath the penthouse and we had the misfortune of two sets of noisy upstairs neighbours for the whole of our stay - sliding patio doors in a hotel room in an old building where noise travels is a terrible idea. We didn’t have one good night’s sleep during our stay (the hard beds contributed to this). Would not stay here again.

The staff were all excellent. Couldn't ask for better. Always friendly and engaging.
The bed was a little uncomfortable. The duvet was too narrow.

Location and size me of the staff
Hadn’t been told that even if you live on Isle of Man you now need ID to stay, receptionist was quite sharp and uncaring as didn’t have any, in the end had to show her my booking acknowledgement from booking .com, not a great start.

A good location on the promenade. Rooms were comfortable and well equipped. The bar was very enjoyable with an excellent piano player
The rooms were a little small and the ceilings and walls are thin so sound travels. The ordered options for breakfast arrived late and were over cooked

Reasonably priced, good location, quite good breakfast variety (they do grilled kippers on demand), piano bar and a good brasserie
Lift was old and slow, so being on 4th floor made me quite often wait and wish it was faster. Its also tiny so if you are 3 persons indide, gets too claustrophobic. But its an old building, good they have a lift at all!
The room.service option they give (paying online) didnt work for me, neither did the attempt of ordering over the phone. That needs to be fixed, functional roomservice is a basic expectation.
