Wonderful stay !!

It is a lovely hotel , situated right at the centre of Lugano overlooking the lake. The location is exceptional!! The staff are friendly and nice and the rooms had all necessary amenities! Nothing to complain about !! Would love to stay again if in Lugano

The room tariffs are a bit on the higher side but it’s Switzerland !! And it’s beautiful so if you can afford it it doesn’t hurt 😊

Great location right on the lake, bus stop in front and shops behind. Very comfortable room with large balcony.

Splendido lake view

Perfect location — supermarkets, high-end shopping and a bus stop right at the entrance. You can get here easily from SBB train station via funicular + 5-min walk or directly by bus. Great breakfast and friendly team.

Was a little surprised not more luxurious but views, cleanliness, and location make up for it

Beautiful view from my room and great breakfast (well for someone who likes to make a little charcuterie for breakfast, great selection of cheeses - if you want eggs, bacon, sausage, all that, I'd say it's not very impressive, but what hotel breakfast is?) with friendly/attentive servers in the dining room. Very sweet women. Seems like they have an updated lift/elevator which probably stands out in comparison to other establishments. It's glass and quick-moving.

My ask for recommendations on dining spots was ignored twice online, and then kind of blown off when I arrived. As I pored over reviews before my arrival, I rememebr thinking, WOW this could all be made easier if someone had been willing to help me - so then to arrive and just be told to go next door (presumably they own that spot?) or "that way towards the square" was really disappointing for what I had heard was one of the best places to stay in Lugano. It was Sunday night, so options were extremely limited, would have also helped if someone had told me that places do not stay open late. Instead, one of the waiters at a restaurant I tried (their kitchen was closed) told me "this is late for Lugano" - news to me! I almost gave up and went to McDonalds but was extremely lucky to find the bar across from there would still make me a little pizza. Walter au Lac you could have made my first night in Lugano much better.

Perfect place by the lake in the middle of town.

Fantastic view of Lake Lugano, friendly and helpful staff, quiet room facing the lake and the street was modern and luxurious. Just across the street from the lake and only one block from Via Nassa with lots of shops.

Lovely people at breakfast, musty room, dangerous bathroom!!

The location was great.

The bathroom was substandard, particularly the shower. In fact, it was dangerous. The shower is positioned in a bath so small that it was impossible to stand with balance. Anyone could easily have an accident. The hotel should act immediately.

Loved our stay at the Walter Au Lac!

We loved our room and balcony, but we did have to close thing up to reduce the noise of cars and motorcycles to avoid noise when we were resting.

Perfect location, wonderful staff and lovely comfortable rooms. The views from the terrace on the 5th floor are pretty amazing, and the whole hotel has an 'old world' charm - not 'dated', as some other reviewers have described it. The place is spotless, and the room was very modern. We would stay here again if we were lucky enough to be back in Lugano.

Fantastic location, friendly staff, historic building.

The location and view are incredible. The roof terrace does indeed have wonderful views, but we only saw a shower and some chairs, no hot tub or explanation for the towels being there?! The breakfast was decent and the breakfast room, again, has wonderful views over the lake. The staff are all friendly and kind.

The pillows were awful and I'm glad I always travel with my own! There was only shower gel in the shower room, no shampoo or conditioner. We had four shower caps and three sewing kits though!

Everything about Hotel Walter Au Lac was perfect.

The hotel was located by the lake and my room had a beautiful view. The hotel is near the ferry terminal and shops and restaurants. The staff were so helpful and friendly. The breakfast room was very attractively set out and the breakfast selection was comprehensive.

Everything was perfect about the property but I think Booking.com should provide better directions for travellers who arrive by train - google maps is not that great with its directions when there are many small streets and alleyways to negotiate in historic European towns.

Tha location was fantastic!

We were given a room on the first floor despite the entire hotel being fairly unoccupied. The whole night we couldn’t sleep because their flood lights were pointed into our room and people passing by laughing and smoking was very clearly audible. The whole room got filled with smoke when people were smoking outside the hotel. We had to keep the room windows open because there was no fan and AC wasn’t working.

Magnificent lake view

We stayed in Room 24 which had been newly refurbished. Lake view was magnificent & although the main street was in front of the hotel, the double glazing completely blocked the noise out. Breakfast was very good with a lot of variety.

No rail to hang hand towels on. Main towel rack could only hold 1 wet towel. Bathroom needs hooks or an additional towel rail as well as a rail at the sink for hand towels

Worth every expensive Swiss Franc

The location was amazing, waking up to the sunrise over the lake was very special. I had a single room, which was small and perfectly formed. The shower was in the room but what a shower. I didn’t want to get out! The breakfast room and buffet were lovely too.

Perfect location for a trip to Lugano

Lovely hotel in the perfect location. The room I was in had an issue with the air con and the hotel was fully booked that night but the next night they transferred us to a suite which was great. The staff are really friendly & helpful. I booked a room with a balcony & it was worth it.

A beautiful stay in lovely Lugano

We were pleasantly surprised to find everything on our doorstep, the lake and ferries, restaurants, shops and the amazing view from our room. It was quiet and air conditioned and we enjoyed sipping prosecco on the roof top whilst enjoying the view and summer evening.
