Hôtel Mercure Bayonne Centre Le Grand Hotel

Nice older hotel conveniently located near center of old town Bayonne. Excellent staff - professional, friendly, and always willing to assist. The room was spacious and quiet at night. The bed was large and comfortable. What some might consider to be dated about a room in an old building, we found to be quaint. Do be aware that the deep bathtub might be challenging for some.

Our main disappointment was the very slow Wi-Fi. We sometimes do consulting work while traveling, but this was not easy under these conditions.  Also the breakfast is overpriced - the space is nice but very crowded.

Centrally located

Women at the check in where not helpful. Parking was full and they told me I had requested the parking but they had sent a confirmation email in French and at the very bottom I had to re confirm. Very confusing. Restaurant next door is really good

Reception staff very friendly and helpful, gave us suggestions for restaurants and helped with parking needs due to festival. Great location.

A fridge in room would be helpful

Location was excellent. Staff was very nice, helpful.

The room was rather small and cramped. There was no place to store our luggage. Cups in the room were paper (ugh). The corridor was dark and gloomy, in fact rather depressing. Upon opening the door, there is a step within 2 feet just inside the door, to enter into the room. We were not warned that it was there and first time in, I went flying, luckily did not break anything. They should warn people as they sign in about that step! Sorry to say, it felt more like a 3 star, definitely not a 4 star hotel.
