FULL DESCRIPTION:

Culebra is the Caribbean most people never find — no resorts, no cruise ships, no crowds. Casa Estrella sits above it all with sweeping harbor views, constant trade winds, and skies dark enough at night to see the Milky Way. It's Puerto Rico, which means no passport, no currency exchange — the best version of a Caribbean escape.

The main house and casita are two completely private structures, each with their own deck and full bath. Perfect for two couples traveling together, a family, or a small group that wants space without sacrificing togetherness. Outside, 5 gated acres, an outdoor shower, and a propane grill set the tone for slow mornings with the trade winds and evenings grilling churrasco under a sky full of stars.

Flamenco Beach — consistently ranked one of the world's best — is 15 minutes away. Punto Soldado, the closest beach to the property, is 8 minutes by car and excellent for snorkeling. Leatherback and hawksbill sea turtles nest on Culebra's beaches seasonally.

A hidden island retreat and sanctuary above the sea, offering sweeping ocean views, gentle hilltop breezes, and quiet starlit nights — an authentic island escape.

All fees included. No hidden costs.

COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

WHAT MAKES CULEBRA DIFFERENT FROM OTHER CARIBBEAN ISLANDS?
No large resorts, no cruise ship crowds, no casinos. Culebra is a small island municipality with about 1,800 residents, protected wildlife refuge land, and beaches that feel the way the Caribbean did 40 years ago. It is genuinely undeveloped by design.

WHAT'S THE BEST TIME TO VISIT CULEBRA?
December through April is peak season. May and June offer the same weather with fewer crowds and better availability.

HOW DO GUESTS GET TO CULEBRA?
Most guests fly into San Juan (SJU) and either take the passenger ferry from Fajardo (about 1 hour) or a short puddle-jumper flight directly to Culebra's small airport, 10 minutes from the property. Our caretaker will meet you on arrival and make sure you get settled. We send every guest a detailed arrival guide before check-in.

DO I NEED A PASSPORT?
No. Culebra is part of Puerto Rico, a US territory. No passport, no customs, no currency exchange — just book and go.

ARE THERE SNORKELING AND DIVING SPOTS NEARBY?
Punto Soldado beach — excellent for snorkeling — is the closest beach to the property. Tamarindo offers excellent snorkeling and turtle spotting 12 minutes away, and Culebrita Island and Luis Peña Channel are short boat rides away.

ARE THERE SEA TURTLES?
Leatherback and hawksbill sea turtles nest on Culebra's beaches seasonally. The Culebra National Wildlife Refuge is one of the most important sea turtle nesting sites in the US Caribbean.

IS STARGAZING ACTUALLY GOOD HERE?
One of the best in the Caribbean. Culebra has no large resorts or city lights — on a clear night the Milky Way is visible from the deck with the naked eye.

IS THE HOUSE REALLY OFF THE GRID?
The property runs on a Tesla Powerwall solar system. You get full power with no grid dependency and no blackout risk.

DO I NEED A 4WD VEHICLE?
Yes. The private road to Casa Estrella requires a 4WD vehicle — a Jeep, Bronco, or similar. Our caretaker will meet you upon arrival and personally escort you to the property, and we include vehicle rental recommendations in our detailed welcome guide.

IS THERE AIR CONDITIONING?
The property is cooled entirely by natural trade winds and ceiling fans throughout both structures. Casa Estrella sits on an elevated hilltop that catches a constant breeze.

CAN I WORK REMOTELY FROM CASA ESTRELLA?
Yes. The main house functions as an excellent remote work home base with its own dedicated working space, kitchen, full bath, and deck — ideal for a workcation.

We had an amazing trip and will definitely be back!

Beautiful home. Beautiful view. It’s close enough to town/restaurants/beaches but off the beaten path enough to get away from people. It has most everything you need. Kitchen is well stocked. The snorkel stuff was awesome. You definitely need a Jeep. Bring hand and body soap. We would stay there again!

The house and casita were a perfect housing situation for our family of 6. The kids stayed in the house, and the parents had peace and quiet in the casita. We would 100% stay here again! The breeze at night was amazing. We were very comfortable here

We had a great time in Culebra and will be back. But we won't stay at this house again. The house has so much potential, but we had 2 main issues. 1) We had messaged the property owner prior to booking because we have had some back luck with places being clean in the past. She said that she was a "neat freak" and that we would be happy. Not so. The bedsheets were clean, but the house really wasn't. There was hair in shower drain (not much hot water, 7 min max). The floors had sticky stuff throughout the whole house, and they needed swept. There was a layer of grime on most surfaces. Anything that fingers can touch was dirty. This house was in desperate need of a deep clean. The shower was very dirty. I understand that it is an island, but there was lots of what I think was gecko/lizard poop all over the floors. It swept up easily, but it was a lot. My wife and I found the broom and mop and cleaned the house ourselves. Despite the charged "cleaning" fee. 2) We think this house needs AC. It was nice being on the top of the hill, and about 30% of the time AC wasn't needed. But there were nights we were lying in bed when the breeze wasn't coming and we were sweating and miserable. It was 76 degrees with 80% humidity and no air flow. Just because the house doesn't need AC sometimes, doesn't mean it doesn't NEED it sometimes. We ended up fighting over who got to sleep in the corner single bed by the front windows. It was the only place that got enough air to get a good nights sleep. Maybe other times of the year this isn't an issue, but it was February, and we were not comfortable. And during the day it was far too hot in the house to stay around. At least provide more fans, like large industrial fans that could move some serious air. The fans there did not do much. Jamie helped us a lot in our check in and our check out. She was very nice and responsive. She made a great recommendation for a driver to help us from the port and helped with our Jeep rental. Thank you The house is decorated nice and the beds were comfortable. They have a great selection of board games and our family played them every night. They also have a great selection of books. The potential of this house is huge. If it got a deep clean and some AC, it would be amazing. Finally, the communication was great prior to us arriving. But as soon as we got there and told her about how dirty the house was, it was crickets.
