Only 30 miles to Bar Harbor & Acadia National Park.

Acadia National Park: In 1913, President Woodrow Wilson set aside 6000 acres (within what is now Acadia National Park) as Sieur de Monts National Monument. With the acquisition of more land and private support and funding, in 1919 President Wilson signed an act establishing Lafayette National Park. In 1929 the parks name was changed to Acadia.

Acadia National Park was established to protect the area's spectacular scenic values, Maine's rock bound coast, its coastal and its offshore islands as characterized by the geologic features, natural history and the native plant and animal life. Forty five miles of rustic carriage roads weave around the mountains and through the valleys of Acadia National Park, the gift of philanthropist John D Rockefeller, Jr., and family. Rockefeller, a skilled horseman, desired to travel on motor free byways via horse and carriage into the heart of Mount Desert Island. His efforts resulted in roads with sweeping vistas and close up views of the landscape.

Cadillac Mountain: At 1,530 feet, Cadillac Mountain is not only the tallest mountain in Acadia National Park, but also the tallest mountain along the eastern coast of the United States. Rising high above the town of Bar Harbor, Cadillac Mountain offers magnificent views of the Porcupine Islands and Frenchman Bay. Explore the summit of this granite mountain along a .3-mile trail, which includes wayside exhibits about natural and human history. Portions of this trail are accessible to wheelchair users.

The home was nice and accommodated our family well. The pond (really a lake) was beautiful. The value of the home itself was disappointing. Neighbors are close, albeit all very friendly, but you can overhear conversations easily so no privacy. While the home is equipped, you could not find a knife in the house sharp enough to cut anything. The cupboard with the seasonings was overwhelming, should be checked for age of items, etc. Bedding was old and some of the mattress covers were covered in dirt. We found the dirt after two family members broke out with unexplained rashes. We ended up rewashing the bedding. While the trash was empty, the recycling bin was full and there weren't any instructions on recycling rules or laws. Coffee maker was not cleaned from previous occupants. You're expected to strip beds, start laundry including towels and vacuum which is no problem. Vacuum and broom should be replaced as they don't work. Flower baskets are filled with weeds. Rock wall was falling apart and disarray. Luckily, we did not have any children who are walking . In comparison, we just returned from a vacation in Colorado. We paid 1/3 of the price for a five-star quality home. Looking at the prices for 2024 of the Beecher Pond home, the price has come down substantially (more than half) since paying the high price we did for our August vacation. Memories were made but we will not return to this home.
