Nearby attractions in winter include two famous cross-country skiing resorts (Tahoe/Donner - 2 miles from Alta Vista, and Royal Gorge -15 miles), a nice family ("Tahoe/Donner") downhill ski area within 2 miles (Ski-in possible), and famous Tahoe-Area ski resorts nearby (Palisades-Alpine Meadows, Sugar Bowl, North Star, and others).
Attractions in summer include Tahoe/Donner resort recreational facilities (golf, tennis, two pools, hiking trails, boating on Donner Lake and Lake Tahoe, rafting, kayaking, rock climbing, swimming in the lakes, mountain biking on endless trails and various degrees of difficulty, major trail head nearby, etc).
