Apartmaji Mara

We were driving from Germany via Austria to Slovenia, from the Austrian border it was only about one more hour to Ribnica na Pohorju. The apartment is up on a hill with another holiday house and an “alpine hut” that offers drinks and foods. There’s also a little ski lift right there. We stayed 5 days over New Year’s. When we arrived, the hosts were picking us up more down the hill, because our car couldn’t make it all the way up with the snow. They kindly offered to drive us to the car if we need to get there. You can also walk like 20 min or you have an all-wheel-car with which you can drive up. To welcome us, we got a delicious shot (Schnaps) of local blueberry and we could ask them some questions like where’s it’s good to go and so on. Surprisingly there already was some fresh fruits and bread, Marmelade and other things in our apartment. If you need anything, the hosts are very kind and offer help, also if you need bread for example you can “buy” it from the alpine hut, just let them know. Otherwise there are groceries stores like LIDL near, takes you about half an hour max. The location’s great, right in the middle of trees and there was snow everywhere. Also great for a snow walk over to Kope (1-1,5h). If you’re lucky and there’s enough snow the hosts will drive you to Kope through the mountain with a snow mobile, so you can go skiing in Kope. To the ski area of Maribor it takes you about 1 hour with the car. There’s also a party room in the house that you are free to use. The apartment is modern but still cozy, you can see everything’s made new. There’s a fireplace, a good equipped kitchen with a fridge, an oven, cutlery, pots and all the stuff you need. Also you have an balcony with an awesome view. One big couch where 2 people can sleep on and 2 rooms with big beds. We were 6 people and had enough space. 1 bathroom with toilet and one separate toilet. All in all we had a great time and kind hosts. I’m sure it’s also great in summer.

You should have a car to get there, the best would be a four wheel drive (all-wheel/ Allrad) so you can make it all the way up to the apartment. It’s about half an hour “crushed stone” drive up. Make sure you check first if you can drive ski at the lift if you expect it to be open.
