Apartamento Plaza de la Paz

The apartment is in a great location to visit Haro, the bodegas, and charming surrounding villages. We had been traveling ~ a month. Anytime we book in where a washing machine is onsite, we are grateful. Avoiding a trip to the lavanderia is a time saver and much appreciated. Jesús, our host, is a very good communicator. He even sent me suggested villages to visit during our stay. Well worth adding to our list! He quickly responds to our questions using WhatsApp. The apartment is clean and the kitchen is well equipped. The bottle of Rioja wine and variety of snacks and breakfast biscuits was much appreciated.

The traveler should bring an eye mask. I did not, but luckily my husband had his. The bedroom window coverings are a thin. cotton. decorative sheet material curtain that lets the light easily pass thru. In the late evening, the lampposts in the square, turn on and stay on ALL night. The room lights up brighter than any sunlight. Serious, you can read in bed without a lamp being turned on. The apartment is on the top floor and we were fine with that, because we're in good health and extremely mobile. I did appreciate that Jesús took my suitcase up, I couldn't have done that very fast, nor easily. However, the drawback of the stairwell is that it often smelt of cigarette smoke and scents much more unpleasant than that. Move quickly to avoid the unpleasant odors. Luckily, the apartment DOES NOT have any of these odors.

Very friendly and helpful host with excellent English. He met us to welcome us, show us around the apartment and help with our luggage on the stairs as there's no lift for this fourth floor apartment. He was kind enough to lend us an umbrella on one very rainy morning. The apartment is nicely furnished and well-equipped including a washing machine although no oven. Wi-Fi worked well. It's an easy walk from the central bus stop - buses to/from Haro are far more frequent than trains. Very close to many restaurants. Short walk to the nearby wineries like the excellent Muga. Rioja Like a Native Tours picks up from Haro. The bedrooms have blinds integrating into the window frames which may not be obvious to all, there's a ribbon on one side which you pull to lower and raise them.

My friend found the bed was too hard, he found he could sleep on top of the quilt. The floor is creaky which means you can wake up the person in the other room by walking around. The shower doors don't quite meet and could do with being redone, but that wasn't an issue for us. Haro, in general, seems like a quiet place but the square we overlooked was a bit lively when we were there due to a holiday - the noise carried upward late into the evening. It's an old building and the stairs are a bit uneven in places. I think the communal door access should be improved for vacation rental apartments.

The Host, Jesus, personifies hospitality. He was there to welcome us. The apartment was spotless and very well appointed. A welcome bottle of wine and a well stocked kitchen was a bonus. Overlooking the main square in Haro - it was close to everything.

Historic building without elevator means this wonderful apartment is suitable for those who don't mind stairs!
