Kalypso Traditional House

The house has been restored beautifully and to a very high quality and aesthetic standard, the size was perfect and there are 2 outdoor sitting possibilities, the one on the roof gives a panoramic view over the castle and Livadia bay. The location is excellent within the beautiful ancient Chora with it's beautiful winding streets, also within 50m of a small taverna. Getting picked up from the ferry by friendly Dimitris was great as he can drive of his small car high into the Chora, so not too many steps to walk up with luggage (otherwise 5 - 10 min walking up from the main square at the windmills. No car required on our 3 night stay as the Asty Bus works really well to get around the 6 zones server by this service.

Be prepared for lots of stairs getting around, but that is the charm an during our stay limited crowds.

Kalipso was absolute perfection — beautiful, spotless, and so thoughtfully designed. Dimitri and Anna were the perfect hosts — they picked us up from the ferry, drove us to the house, and Dimitri even carried our luggage up those famous Astypalea stairs (our calf muscles definitely got a workout by the end of the trip 😅). The morning essentials were a lifesaver — especially the Nespresso machine and all its glorious goodness after a night of those dangerously good cocktails (all walking distance, of course 👏). The layout was ideal — bedrooms both upstairs and downstairs for total privacy, and the rooftop view? Absolutely breathtaking. Sunset wines up there became our daily ritual after swimming and exploring the island. Our hosts were so welcoming and even left us biscuits a few times after cleaning — such a lovely touch. Honestly, Kalipso felt like home… just way prettier. I’ll definitely be back — Kalipso, you’ve set the bar sky-high! ☀️🍷💙

Small, traditional house in the heart of the Chora, situated on a hill, under the Kastro. What a warm welcome we received! We were met off the ferry by Dimitris who gave us a lift up the hill to where Anna was waiting with homemade cake and water, wine, fruit and jam in the fridge. The house was perfect for our family (1x double, 1x double up steep stairs on mezzanine level, 1x single in lounge). We enjoyed the balcony and not having to use air conditioning. It’s an easy walk down to beaches at Livadi and Pera Gialos but there are also infrequent buses for the journey back up.

No internet, but it added to our relaxed stay.
