Orbec in the trough
Between Bernay and Vimoutiers, Orbec was built in the valley of the Orbiquet.
Claude Debussy composed its "gardens under the rain" .Orbec has preserved the 16th century built signs: the wooden panel of many medieval houses and the stone of the mansions. It is in this "charming villotte", sung by La Varende, that Didier undertook to restore an old butcher's shop in this small town to make a shelter. This house was very dilapidated and Didier had to roll up his sleeves for the metamorphosis takes place because the restoration is made with the most diverse recoveries, from antique dealers and antique materials merchants, objects revisited for decoration,
The mission of Didier is successful: atmosphere incredibly warm, serene and neat decoration, make this place an ideal place to meet friends for a weekend by the fire.
The cottages are open since August 2008 and from which it is advisable to discover the thousand and one detour of this charming land of trough.

Lovely house with large rooms and two full bathrooms. Not suitable for those with mobility issues as it has a narrow staircase. Kitchen could do with a couple of extra pots, but plenty of crockery and glassware. Lovely town with a couple of great restaurants and a couple of bars. Great boulangerie just down the street and 2 medium sized supermarkets, one within walking distance (5 minutes). The owner was great, loads of information and quick responses. Even booked a restaurant for the night of our arrival which was really appreciated! Would definitely stay again, great base to explore Normandy. Be aware that you cannot park on the street on market day, but there are a couple of free car parks at the end of the road, about a 2 minute walk away from the front door.

This was my second time staying here and it was as enjoyable as the first time several years ago. The property manager is very prompt in responding to any needs. My duration changed after initial booking and they were very nice about accommodating my change.

Didier and Monique could not have been more welcoming. On hand to help and guide if needed. The property was stunning and quite literally in the centre of the town. The patisserie's were a nightmare for people with a sweet tooth as their delicacies were to die for!!! We really enjoyed making memories here with our family and two dogs who came with is for the first time. C’est magnifique!

Decorations good, style not unlike Property in Tordouet. However, listing says washer/dryer. None exist in that property. Patio door didn't open and vegetation had taken over. Wrong code given for wi-fi access. Most importantly we looked forward to seeing our "friend" and never did

We very much enjoyed our stay in Orbec. Great in-town location with easy walking access to bakeries, a butcher, and restaurants. Great location for exploring both the Normzndy coast and inland Normandy. Comfortable and clean.

    Fantastic house and hospitality

We had a really lovely week at Didier’s gite in Orbec-en-Auge. The house was spotlessly clean - more important now than ever, with Covid-19 - and had everything we could possibly have needed. The house was really comfortable, with lovely pillows and linens, and is well-located for exploring the nearby region. Didier was a very conscientious, generous and friendly host and went far beyond what we would have expected. We felt very welcomed and well taken care of. I would highly recommend a stay at this lovely property.

my brother and I had a delightful stay in this lovely home. It is very spacious and every bit as charming as it says. I could not recommend it more - a truly great place to stay.

This gite was beautifully decorated and had everything one needs for an extended cottage stay. Its located on Orbec's main street and parking is ample in the offseason. Within a couple of blocks there are numerous bakeries, butcher shops, laundry facilities and grocery stores to get supplies. We found the duvets in the bedrooms to be a little too warm to be comfortable, and regulating the temperature through the house was a little challenging with the individual radiators that did not always respond. Windows in the upper floors are easily opened if fresh air is needed. Two things we disliked were the strong smell of cigarette smoke on the main floor that seemed to seep from the adjacent homes, and the dark lighting that resulted from heavy drapes in the living room that were drawn to hide a large advertiisng placard for sister properties in the front window. Elderly or large people may not like the number of stairs to the bedrooms, or climbing in and out of the tub in the master bathroom. Wifi was adequate and we had no problems logging in. Enquiries to the owner were responded to in a timely manner, but the confirmation of payment took a little longer than I felt comfortable with. Meeting of a property representative was punctual and the key drop/security deposit return at the end of the stay was very easy.
