Family Villa, Profondeville

I’ve stayed in many accommodations before, but never has everything gone so smoothly. You immediately feel comfortable, everything is spotless and the pool is pleasantly warm and clean. Check-in and check-out were absolutely effortless. Whenever I had a question or a small issue, someone was always available and helped right away. I can highly recommend this place! If I could wish for one tiny thing, it would be a sound system for playing music, that would make it absolutely flawless :)

This house is absolutely beautiful, it has a private indoor (it is advertised as outdoor in the information) pool in the basement, a fantastic open planned living, dining and cooking area, and 4 generously sized bedrooms all with en-suite bathrooms. It is modern and is well equipped to allow you to enjoy self catering - the fire pit bbq is particularly fantastic. We stayed in the summer but this would be a wonderful winter house to cosy up in also. The outside space is great, private lawn to play ball games on and 2 outdoor seating areas each generously sized for number of people this property can accommodate. The property is situated in a gorgeous part of Belgium, if you are cyclists like us then it is amazing with mountain biking routes and some stunning cycling routes along the river Meuse. There are good local amenities but you are also well situated to enjoy travel to Brussels (we used the train and it worked really well), Luxembourg (2 hours ish away by car) and even Germany and of course France are within striking distance if you’re keen to explore. Nearby there is the gorgeous tourist town of Dînant and Namur if you want less touristy. There is so much history in this region and it was a great pleasure to explore it.

As this is a new property, it is very well insulated and holds on to heat. This made the bedrooms very hot indeed and uncomfortable in the hot weather we were blessed with. There are 3 air conditioning units in the house but we found only 2 of them worked, and there were a variety of fans of which none worked at all. The property does not come with bed linen - however I did request this from the owner who provided it along with towels for a small fee and this was very much appreciated. The pool is only permitted to be used between the hours of 0900-2100. This is not advertised anywhere prior to the stay and was an inconvenience to us as these are the hours we were most likely to be out exploring the area. I can’t understand why you wouldn’t be permitted an early morning or late night swim to bookend your day, particularly as it is a private pool. During our stay at the property, we made a great effort to ensure we were keeping it clean including regularly cleaning toilets, the kitchen, the crockery and cutlery that we used, sweeping and hoovering the floor on multiple occasions. As there were no clear instructions for recycling, we used the 2 bins as we would expect to in our country - mixed recyclables in one bin and non recyclables in the other, then placed them outside where we were asked to. There were no clear instructions as to how the property should be left (a checklist for example) and therefore we left the property as we would in any other booking - stripped the beds, emptied all bins and placed outside, left nothing behind, tidied around and generally left it respectfully - we were to vacate by 10am and therefore there was limited time to do any further cleaning. Despite this, during my drive home to the UK I received a very rude whatsapp message direct from the host stating that the property had been left in a “deplorably filthy state”.
